Netflix drops Father of the Year trailer

Who would win in a fight between two dads? That’s the question asked by Netflix’s new comedy. Originally titled Who Do You Think Would Win?, the film – now titled Father of the Year – follows what happens when a drunken debate between two recent college graduates is taken seriously by their idiot dads, leading to lost jobs, ruined relationships and futures are destroyed.
The film, which is produced by Adam Sandler’s Happy Madison Productions, stars Sandler regular David Spade, who steps into the lead role alongside Nat Faxon, Joey Bragg, Matt Shively, and Bridgit Mendler. Directed by Tyler Spindel, the result presents itself as less about dissecting a toxic social norm and more about gross-out silliness.
Father of the Year hits Netflix on Friday 20th July. Here’s the trailer:
Sandler regular David Spade gets his own Netflix movie
8th May 2017
Adam Sandler regular David Spade is getting his own Netflix movie.
Spade has frequently collaborated with the comedian, including on his Netflix original movies Sandy Wexler and The Do-Over. The streaming giant has a now-famous soft spot for Sandler, reporting strong success from the four feature films the company commissioned two years ago. Since then, Netflix says that subscribers have streamed over half a billion hours of Sandler’s work.
Now, Spade has inked his own deal for a comedy with the online service. Titled Who Do You Think Would Win?, the film will be produced under Sandler’s Happy Madison banner, with Spade starring alongside Nat Faxon. They will play two fathers who find themselves going head to head, after a debate between their sons about whose dad would win in a fight gets taken a little too seriously by one of them. The duo will be joined by a cast that includes Undateable’s Bridgit Mendler, Liv and Maddie’s Joey Bragg, Matt Shively and Jackie Sandler.
Tyler Spindel will direct the film, with Allen Covert on producing duties, alongside exec-producers Barry Bernardi and Kevin Grady.
Netflix hasn’t forgotten about Sandler, though: with one more film from its original deal with him still to come, it’s just ordered another four.
Father of the Year is available on Netflix UK, as part of an £9.99 monthly subscription.
