6 Underground: Ryan Reynolds releases behind-the-scenes tease
20th September 2018
Ryan Reynolds has released a behind-the-scenes video from 6 Underground, Netflix’s upcoming blockbuster.
Directed by Michael Bay, the action movie is one of the streaming giant’s biggest projects to date – the first time the Transformers director has worked with Netflix, and also the first time that producers Skydance has worked with Netflix on a feature film.
The actioner is based on an original idea from writers and executive producers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, best known for their irreverent work on Deadpool and Deadpool 2. Skydance’s David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Don Granger are producing, along with Bay and Ian Bryce. More details than that, though, are being kept closely under wraps, so it’s a surprise to see Reynolds in full Deadpool mode, as he posted a video from the set of the blockbuster with typically irreverent, self-aware commentary.
“For me, it’s the stillness… it’s the quiet moments,” he said to the camera, before something massive happens behind him. It’s confirmation that Bay and the crew have enough of a sense of humour about what they do, but it’s also a subtle way for the Netflix project to prove how large its budget is, and how much action is on the cards.
For those less drawn by explosions, the cast is impressively star-studded: the movie also stars Mélanie Laurent (Inglorious Basterds), Payman Maadi (A Separation), Corey Hawkins (BlacKkKlansman), Dave Franco (Now You See Me), Adria Arjona (Triple Frontier), Manuel Garcia-Rulfo (Sicario: Day Of The Soldado), Ben Hardy (X-Men: Apocalypse) and Lior Raz (Fauda).

Melanie Laurent joins Michael Bay’s 6 Underground
16th August 2019
Mélanie Laurent has joined the cast of Michael Bay’s Netflix film, 6 Underground.
The action film, which is based on an original idea from writers and executive producers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick (Deadpool, Deadpool 2), was announced earlier this year and swiftly amassed an impressive cast list. Led by Ryan Reynolds, the ensemble includes Corey Hawkins (BlacKkKlansman, 24: Legacy (TV) , Straight Outta Compton), Adria Arjona (Triple Frontier, True Detective (TV) , Pacific Rim Uprising), Manuel Garcia-Rulfo (Sicario: Day of the Soldado, Murder On The Orient Express, The Magnificent Seven), Ben Hardy (X-Men: Apocalypse, upcoming Bohemian Rhapsody) Lior Raz (Fauda, Operation Finale), and Dave Franco (6 Balloons, Neighbors, Now You See Me).
Now, it’s got two more names on the list: Melanie Laurent, the César Award winner star of Beginners and Inglorious Bastards, and Payman Maadi, whose diverse CV includes The Night Of, A Separation and 13 Hours.
Skydance’s David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Don Granger are producing the project, along with Bay and Ian Bryce. It will start filming later this month and will be released worldwide on Netflix in 2019.
Corey Hawkins and Dave Franco join Ryan Reynolds in Netflix’s 6 Underground
20th July 2018
Corey Hawkins and Dave Franco have joined Ryan Reynolds in Netflix’s 6 Underground.
The upcoming feature film, which is directed by Michael Bay (Transformers), promises to one of Netflix’s biggest – and loudest – original films to date, as the streaming service moved to establish its development arm as a viable rival to traditional studios.
The film marks the first collaboration between Skydance and Netflix for an event level feature and the first Netflix project for Michael Bay. With Ryan Reynolds in the lead role, the project is already not short on eye-catching names, but now, the movie is rounding out its cast with an impressive roster of talent, including Dave Franco (Netflix’s Easy), Corey Hawkins (24: Legacy), Manuel Garcia-Rulfo (Sicario: Day of the Soldado, Murder On The Orient Express) and Adria Arjona (Triple Frontier, True Detective).
Filming will start later this month ahead if a worldwide release on Netflix in 2019.
Ryan Reynolds and Michael Bay head to Netflix for Six Underground
23rd May 2018
How do you follow Deadpool 2? Netflix seems to be the answer for Ryan Reynolds, who is heading to the streaming giant for his next feature film, Six Underground
Skydance Media is co-producing the film, which is based on an original idea by writers and executive producers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, fresh from working with Reynolds on Deadpool and Deadpool 2.
While we don’t know the exact details of the action film, we do know that it will be big and large – it will be directed by Michael Bay (Transformers).
Skydance’s David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Don Granger will produce Six Underground, along with Bay. It marks the first collaboration between Skydance Media and Netflix for an event level feature film and the first Netflix project for both Michael Bay and Ryan Reynolds. Skydance does, however, has a long-standing relationship with Netflix in television where they produce the critically acclaimed and Emmy Nominated series Grace and Frankie and earlier this year launched the high-concept, strong IP based sci-fi series Altered Carbon on the platform.
The film, produced by Skydance Media and Netflix, is targeting a summer start of production for release in 2019.
