Rob Brydon and Steve Coogan take The Trip to Sky

Rob Brydon and Steve Coogan will return for a third season of The Trip.
Created and directed by Michael Winterbottom for Revolution Films, the series follows Rob and Steve (playing themselves) as they journey around different bars and restaurants, impersonating Michael Caine, Ronnie Corbett and each other. Over two seasons, the show has established itself as both unique and laugh-out-loud funny, even being repackaged as a feature film to be sold overseas.
Now, the pair will reunite once more for a culinary tour of Spain, heading from the North Atlantic to the Mediterranean coast for a fresh helping of gastronomic adventures. Filming later this year, The Trip to Spain will take in six Spanish locales, from Cantabria to the Basque region, Aragon, Rioja, Castile-La Mancha and Andalusia.
“Having thought long and hard about yet another sojourn into culinary distractions and middle age, I have reluctantly agreed to Eviva Espana,” says Spain. “I have a hole in my diary, there will be free food and accommodation and Rob Brydon is surprisingly good company. I also like Michael.”
“It has been more than three years since the last Trip, and travelling with Rob and Steve is always enjoyable – so it seemed like a good idea to go on another journey together,” adds Winterbottom, “before they get too old.”
As well as Spain, though, the pair will also journey to a new TV destination: Sky Atlantic,
Zai Bennett, Director of Sky Atlantic, said: “The Trip is as close to perfection as you get in comedy. It’s a rare chance to watch comic masters, totally authoring their work with creative freedom. It’s an absolutely perfect fit for Sky Atlantic. We are very happy to ensure that this award-winning comedy will continue building on the channel’s relationships with Steve, Rob and Revolution Films showcasing our continued investment in top-flight original comedy.”
Commissioned by Jon Mountague for Sky, the new deal follows a similar move from Coogan, whose Alan Partridge has jumped from the BBC and YouTube to Sky Atlantic for the broadcast of his Mid Morning Matters. (A second season of that will start on 16th February on Sky Atlantic at 10pm.)
