Ranked: True Detective Season 2 trailer faces (in order of truthfulness)

HBO has released a trailer for True Detective Season 2 and it’s hard to imagine anything more True Detectivey.
That’s partly thanks to the catchy, knowing and exceedingly melancholic song used to accompany it – “Change will come to those who have no fear…” – but also thanks t the facial expressions you see throughout.
The story may have changed from the fantastic first season and the cast may be different, but judging by this teaser glimpse of Rachel McAdams, Colin Farrell, Taylor Kitsch and Vince Vaughn, the four new faces will have no trouble recapturing the mix of depression, weariness, shock and intrigue that Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey nailed last time round.
Step aside Carrie Cry Face from Homeland: there’s a new stroppy style in TV town. And so, while we wait to hear on a UK air date on Sky Atlantic (the show is set to start on Sunday 21st June in the US), we’ve ranked all the faces from the True Detective Season 2 trailer in order of truthfulness.
6.
Almost unrecognisable as a bad-ass cop, it’s great to get a hint of True Detective improving upon its weak slate of female characters. The way she leads a group of men suggests they all buy into her truthfulness, but what is that truth? Nobody seems aware of it yet.
5.
Colin Farrell looks worked up about something, but he doesn’t seem to quite know what yet: he’s detecting, yes, but look at that squint. You get the feeling that the truth is still eluding him.
4.
It’s been a long time since Vince Vaughn really got the chance to cut loose as a bad guy. It’s clear from this shot that he’s fully familiar with that truth – and, judging by his angry look of realisation, a lot more besides.
3.
Colin Farrell keeps the truth hidden in his moustache in case of emergencies.
2.
It doesn’t get more truthful than this: the picture of Vince Vaughn is positively painterly, with its queasy colours, and provocative stare right in your eyes. Yeah, he might as well be saying, I’ve seen the truth.
1.
It’s when the characters all interact with each other, though, that all the truth happens.
