Prodigies: Will Sharpe and Ayo Edebiri to star in Apple rom-com

Will Sharpe and Ayo Edebiri are teaming up for romantic comedy Prodigies.
The seven-part series will bring together the Giri/Haji and The Bear stars to explore the universal complexities of long-term relationships through the lens of a very unique couple.
The show is created, written and directed by Sharpe, who has been a rising talent ever since his debut Black Pond in 2011. Since then he has starred in Flowers and Defending the Guilty on this side of the pond, as well as A Real Pain and The White Lotus in the US. The latter earned him an Emmy nomination, while Giri/Haji saw him nominated for a TV BAFTA. Sharpe has also written and directed the film The Electrical Life of Louis Wain and the Sky Atlantic series Landscapers.
Now, hot on the heels of playing Mozart in new series Amadeus – opposite Paul Bettany as Antonio Salieri – he’s getting his own project on a streaming platform known for its star-led approach to commissioning.
Prodigies will follow Didi (Edebiri) and Ren (Sharpe), two ex-child prodigies who have been together since they were children. Now in their early 30s, they are starting to question whether their very ordinary existence is living up to the extraordinary promise of their childhood. Inevitably, they find themselves asking the same questions of their relationship. As individual hopes and needs feed into and conflict with their shared lives, the series challenges the fallacy at the heart of romantic storytelling — that the tale is over when the heroes get together. In life, surely, that is just the beginning?
The project is produced by Sister, which produced Giri/Haji, with Edebiri also serving as an executive producer on the series. Other exec-producers include Jane Featherstone, Naomi De Pear (Flowers) and Katie Carpenter (Flowers).
