Peter Berg has inked a first-look deal with Netflix.
Under his scripted entertainment banner, Film 44, Peter has written and directed feature films ranging from Friday Night Lights and The Kingdom to Hancoc, Battleship, Lone Survivor and Patriots Day. Last year, he teamed up with Netlix for Spenser Confidential, starring Mark Wahlberg.
The film became one of the most popular Netflix films to date, with 85 million members choosing to watch the film in the first 4 weeks after its release. Since then, Netflix announced that Berg would executive produce and direct all episodes of Painkiller, a new scripted drama about the origins of the opioid crisis.
Now, Film 44 and Netflix are making their partnership official, with a first-look deal to produce and direct live action films and series for the streamer. Berg and Netflix film chief, Scott Stuber, have a long history of working together including films Patriot’s Day and Kingdom.
Berg is currently developing The Colonel’s Wife which he will write, direct and produce.
Berg says: “For me, in this moment, Netflix is the perfect creative fit. I could not be more excited to get to work!”
Brian Wright, Head of Overall Deals at Netflix, adds: “Pete Berg has created iconic television. Authentic, visceral and kinetic, Berg’s style has elevated storytelling for years and we are proud to welcome him to Netflix.”
