With filming under way on the new Peaky Blinders film, Netflix has released the first images of its cast in action – including Barry Keoghan.
The movie continues the crime family saga, which was created by Steven Knight and starred Cillian Murphy as gangster Tommy Shelby. Murphy will reprise his role for the film, which follows on from Season 6 of the BBC One series, which took Shelby’s story to the start of World War Two.
“I’m thrilled to see the cameras rolling on this new chapter of the Peaky Blinders story, set during World War II,” said Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight in a statement. “The country is at war, and so, of course, are our Peaky Blinders.”
The film, which is made in association with BBC Film, is directed by Tom Harper, who helmed episodes of the first season, and written by Knight.
Barry Keoghan will join Murphy in front of the camera, and, while we don’t know anything more about his character, we have got a first look at him and Murphy on set – complete with a flat cap.
Other cast members include Rebecca Ferguson, Tim Roth, Sophie Rundle, Ned Dennehy, Packy Lee, Ian Peck and Jay Lycurgo.

Ferguson’s role is being kept under wraps, as are the precise details of the plot. Ferguson is no stranger to streaming, having starred in Apple TV+ sci-fi drama Silo, which will return soon for Season 2. She will also soon appear in Kathryn Bigelow’s untitled upcoming film for Netflix.

Peaky Blinders movie heading to Netflix
6th June 2024
Tommy Shelby is coming back to our screens, with a Peaky Blinders movie officially in the works at Netflix.
The hit crime family saga, written and created by Steven Knight, has become a cult phenomenon since launching in 2013. It stars Cillian Murphy as Thomas Shelby, a crime boss in Birmingham during the 1920s. Season 5 saw Tommy elected as MP for Birmingham South with the Wall Street Crash on the horizon, before Season 6 took the story towards to the start of World War Two.
Now, the saga is set to continue, with Cillian Murphy reprising his role as Shelby.
“It seems like Tommy Shelby wasn’t finished with me,” Murphy said in a statement. “It is very gratifying to be recollaborating with Steven Knight and Tom Harper on the film version of Peaky Blinders. This is one for the fans.”
The film, which is made in association with BBC Film, will be directed by Tom Harper, who helmed episodes of the first season, and scripted by Knight.
“When I first directed Peaky Blinders over 10 years ago, we didn’t know what the series would become, but we did know that there was something in the alchemy of the cast and the writing that felt explosive,” Harper said. “Peaky has always been a story about family — and so it’s incredibly exciting to be reuniting with Steve and Cillian to bring the movie to audiences across the world on Netflix.”
“I’m genuinely thrilled that this movie is about to happen,” Knight added. “It will be an explosive chapter in the Peaky Blinders story. No holds barred. Full on Peaky Blinders at war.”
The film begin production later this year.
