Paramount’s hit series Yellowstone will officially end with its fifth season, but a sequel is already on the way – and will in fact arrive later this year.
Co-created by Taylor Sheridan (Wind River, Hell or High Water and Sicario) and John Linson, Yellowstone chronicles the Dutton family, led by John Dutton (Kevin Costner), who controls the largest contiguous cattle ranch in the United States. Amid shifting alliances, unsolved murders, open wounds, and hard-earned respect – the ranch is in constant conflict with those it borders – an expanding town, an Indian reservation, and vicious business rivalries.
Season 5, Part 1 continued to break records with the premiere garnering over 17 million total viewers. But while Part 2 will debut in November, Paramount already has plans to continue the franchise, with a follow-up series arriving in December.
Produced by MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios, the cast for the sequel will be announced shortly, although there were reports at one point that Matthew McConaughey was in talks to star in a show featuring several Yellowstone characters, which would certainly help Paramount fill Costner’s starry shoes.
It will premiere in December on Paramount Network and later on Paramount+, where it will join Yellowstone prequels 1883 and 1923.
“Yellowstone has been the cornerstone on which we have launched an entire universe of global hits – from 1883 to Tulsa King, and I am confident our Yellowstone sequel will be another big hit, thanks to the brilliant creative mind of Taylor Sheridan and our incredible casts who bring these shows to life,” said Chris McCarthy, President & CEO Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios.
“The Dutton story continues, picking up where Yellowstone leaves off in another epic tale. We are thrilled to bring this new journey to audiences around the world,” added David Glasser, CEO, 101 Studios.
