Orange Is the New Black Season 3 is on the way, Netflix has confirmed.
Laura Prepon, who plays Alex, the former lover of Taylor Schilling’s Piper Chapman, posted a photo on Instagram of possible joke titles for episodes in the third season – which Netflix then confirmed to Mashable as going ahead.
The news might come as some surprise. After all, Season 2 hasn’t been released yet – it arrives on Netflix on Friday 6th June. But it follows a precedent from the streaming video giant, who were certain enough to greenlight the second run before the premiere of the first one.
That confidence is certainly justified; it was the service’s most-watched original series in 2013 and it’s also fantastic. The comedy drama even notched up a Golden Globe nomination for Schilling – which lost to another of Netflix’s original shows, House of Cards. It has now continued all the way through to a third spell behind bars, which will presumably debut next year – and, it seems, will star Prepon once more.
While the news of a third season is exciting, perhaps even more so is the other thing that Prepon posted on Instagram: a photo of Orange Is the New Black LEGO figures.
The only thing missing is a LEGO chicken.
All 13 episodes of Orange Is the New Black Season 2 arrive on Netflix on Friday 6th June. If you need us before then, we’ll be trying to make up our own LEGO set.
