Netflix’s new anime Dragon Pilot flies onto the streaming service this September, and a new poster gives us a taste of the cute action in store.
The series, which is produced by Bones and written by the award-winning Mari Okada, follows recently stationed Air Self-Defence Force rookie Hisone Amakasu, who is chosen by a dragon concealed within Gifu Air Base to be his pilot.
Directed by Hiroshi Kobayashi and exec produced by Shinji Higuchi, it was unveiled by Netflix at its NETFLIX❤ANIME panel at Anime Expo last week. Other announcements included the commission of new series Ultraman and Kengan Ashura, plus the renewal of Aggretsuko for a second season and the release date of both Castlevania Season 2 and Godzilla sequel City on the Edge of Battle.
Following the announcements, Netflix Director of Content for Japan & Anime John Derderian moderated a panel featuring key anime creators LeSean Thomas (Cannon Busters), Adi Shankar (Castlevania) and Shinji Higuchi (Dragon Pilot). On the upcoming anime projects, Derderian noted: “As Netflix has grown around the world we have been astounded by the broad reach and great depth of anime fandom. We are partnering with the best global creators to produce a diverse slate of shows that we hope will excite the boundless passion of anime fans and make Netflix a premier destination for this beloved art form.”
Dragon Pilot will launch on Netflix on 21st September 2018. Here’s the poster:
