“We won’t end drug trafficking, but we can control it,” say Mexican officials in the new trailer for El Chapo Season 2 – and what famous last words they prove to be.
Netflix’s series explores the life story of one of the world’s most notorious criminals, Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman, over a span of three decades – from 1985 when he was a low-level member of the Guadalajara Cartel, his rise to power, and his ultimate downfall.
The show, which is created by Silvana Aguirre Zegarra and produced by Daniel Posada, is a perfect fit for the streaming giant, following the popularity of its original drama, Narcos. It marks Netflix’s continuing investment in international productions, particularly in Mexico and Latin America. Its first co-production between Univision’s Story House Entertainment and Netflix, it has the first-run rights to the programme outside of the USA.
Now, it’s back for a second season, as the Mexican government thinks it can work with and control El Chapo – only to end up starting the biggest drug war in the country. Season 2 premieres on Netflix on Friday 15th December. Here’s a trailer:
