Production is now officially underway on The Witcher Season 4 – and Netflix has already ordered a fifth season.
Based on the best-selling fantasy series of books, The Witcher is a tale of fate and family. It tells the story of the intertwined destinies of three individuals in the vast world of The Continent, where humans, elves, witchers, gnomes, and monsters battle to survive and thrive, and where good and evil is not easily identified.
Season 4 picks up after the Continent-altering events that close out Season 3, with Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri faced with traversing the war-ravaged Continent and its many demons apart from each other. If they can embrace and lead the groups of misfits they find themselves in, they have a chance of surviving the baptism of fire – and finding one another again.
Liam Hemsworth will step into Henry Cavill’s shoes as Geralt, alongside Anya Chalotra and Freya Allan as Yennefer and Ciri. Joining Season 4 will be Sharlto Copley (District 9, Monkey Man) as infamous bounty hunter Leo Bonhart, James Purefoy (The Following, Solomon Kane) as Emhyr’s court advisor and high-ranking spy, Skellen, and Danny Woodburn (Watchmen, Mirror Mirror) as fan-favourite Zoltan.
Netflix has shared a sneak peek of the cast together from a recent table read, while also announcing that Season 5 will film back to back with Season 4. The two chapters will adapt the remaining of Sapkowski’s books, Baptism of Fire, The Tower of the Swallow and Lady of the Lake, to provide a conclusion to Netflix’s hit fantasy drama.
Lauren Schmidt Hissrich says: “It is with huge pride that we begin shooting our penultimate Season of The Witcher with a stellar cast, including some exciting new additions, led by Liam Hemsworth as Geralt of Rivia. We’re thrilled to be able to bring Andrzej Sapkowski’s books to an epic and satisfying conclusion. It wouldn’t be our show if we didn’t push our family of characters to their absolute limit — stay tuned to see how the story ends.”
