“If you continue down this path, nothing in your life will ever be the same again.” That’s the sound of Cobra Kai returning to our screens this September – and a new trailer gives us a glimpse of Season 5 in action.
Following the shocking results of the All Valley Tournament, Sensei Terry Silver is expanding the Cobra Kai empire and trying to make his “No Mercy” style of karate the only game in town. With Kreese behind bars and Johnny Lawrence setting karate aside to focus on repairing the damage he’s caused, Daniel LaRusso must call on an old friend for help. You can see the resulting carnage on 9th September, when Season 5 hits Netflix. In the meantime, here’s the trailer:
Cobra Kai Season 5 set for September release
6th May 2022
Cobra Kai will return for a fifth season this September, and a new teaser gives us a first glimpse of the next bout.
The series, a sequel to The Karate Kid, sees Ralph Macchio and William Zabka reprise their roles from the 1980s sports classic as arch-rivals Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence – along with Martin Kove as sensei John Kreese. Several decades older, with the events of the 1984 All Valley Karate Tournament a distant memory, Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) lives with his beautiful family, while running a successful string of car dealerships, and Lawrence (William Zabka), whose life has taken a rocky turn, seeks redemption by reopening the infamous Cobra Kai karate dojo, promising to teach local kids how to fight with “a method of fighting your pansy-ass generation desperately needs”. But when Kreese and Terry Silver (Thomas Ian Griffith, reprising his role from The Karate Kid Part III) twist that philosophy into something more dangerous, the battle for the soul of the valley begins to heat up.
Season 5 picks up after the shocking results of the All Valley Tournament, with Silver expanding the Cobra Kai empire and trying to make his “No Mercy” style of karate the only game in town. With Lawrence setting karate aside to focus on repairing the damage he’s caused, Daniel LaRusso must call on another familiar face for help: Chozen Toguchi (Yuji Okumoto, who briefly appeared in Season 3).
Season 5 will premiere on 9th September. Here’s the trailer:
Netflix renews Cobra Kai for Season 5
29th August 2021
Netflix has already renewed Cobra Kai for a fifth season, before the fourth had even premiered.
Written and executive produced by Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg, the show was a hit for YouTube’s original programming, before jumping to Netflix for a third season, which saw Kreese driving up the tension between La Russo and Lawrence. Later this year, another wave of toxic masculinity is on the cards, as the stakes rise and the All Valley Karate Tournament returns in Season 4 – featuring Thomas Ian Griffith reprising his role as Terry Silver from The Karate Kid Part III.
The renewal comes after the series picked up four Emmy nominations this summer, including Outstanding Comedy Series, Outstanding Sound Editing for a Comedy, Outstanding Stunt Performance and Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Comedy.
