The show, which will arrive early next year, marks a rare excursion into non-fiction TV for the streaming giant – earlier this year, the site launched Chef’s Table, a serious look at food around the world and the people behind it. Chelsea Does, though, is a big step out of the kitchen into edgier territory, thanks to its presenter, Chelsea Handler.
The Chelsea Lately talk show host is known for her outspoken humour and will tackle a range of controversial or topical subjects, from marriage and drugs to racism and Silicon Valley. Aiming to explore the issues with her “unique voice and provocative point of view”, she promises to have “the hard conversations about things that are not easy to talk about”.
The series will be kept under control. though, by a team of seasoned documentary veterans. The show will be directed by Oscar and Emmy-nominated Eddie Schmidt (This Film Is Not Yet Rated, Valentine Road) and produced by Oscar award-winning Morgan Neville (20 Feet From Stardom, Best of Enemies).
All four episodes of Chelsea Does will premiere on Netflix in January 2016. Here’s the full trailer – and a short video announcing the series’ release date underneath:
