Netflix has picked up the rights to new Spanish film Hasta El Cielo with plans to produce a TV spin-off.
The series will continue the story where the film, recently released in Spanish cinemas, leaves off. Daniel Calparsoro and Jorge Guerricaechevarría will repeat their roles as director and screenwriter, with Vaca Films (El desorden que dejas, Cell 211) producing the project for Netflix. It will continue the story of a gang of thieves who put the Madrid police force in check.
Since his debut with Salto al vacío, Calparsoro has not stopped working (Pasajes, Bird Box, Asfalto), eventually specialising in action thrillers such as Guerreros, The Absent and To Steal from a Thief, on which he worked with Jorge Guerricaechevarría. Jorge has previously worked with Álex de la Iglesia, Daniel Monzón and Daniel Calparsoro on films such as Balada triste de trompeta, The Day of the Beast, Quien a hierro mata and Cell 211, for which he won a Goya Award in 2009.
Hasta El Cielo will be released globally on Netflix, following a worldwide online release of the film.
