The journey to success is atypical, teaches the trailer for Atypical’s third season.
The coming-of-age comedy, created, written and executive produced by Robia Rashid (How I Met Your Mother, Will & Grace), follows Sam (played by Keir Gilchrist), an 18-year-old on the autistic spectrum as he searches for love and independence. While Sam is on his funny and emotional journey of self-discovery, the rest of his family must grapple with change in their own lives as they all struggle with the central theme: what does it really mean to be normal?
Sam and the Gardner family return as Sam prepares to begin college, and figure out what success means for him, on top of the existing pressures of growing up. Find out the answer when Season 3 premieres on 1st November on Netflix.

Atypical returns to Netflix next month, and we’ve got our first look at the show’s third season.
The coming-of-age comedy, created, written and executive produced by Robia Rashid (How I Met Your Mother, Will & Grace), follows Sam (played by Keir Gilchrist), an 18-year-old on the autistic spectrum as he searches for love and independence. While Sam is on his funny and emotional journey of self-discovery, the rest of his family must grapple with change in their own lives as they all struggle with the central theme: what does it really mean to be normal?
Jennifer Jason Leigh stars as his mother, Elsa, who is on her own journey of self-discovery. Michael Rapaport plays his father, Doug. Season 3 picks up as Sam bids them farewell to begin college, and needs to figure out what success means for him, on top of the existing pressures of growing up. At home, Elsa continues a journey of self-discovery.
The cast also includes Bridgette Lundy-Paine as Sam’s sister, Casey, and Amy Okuda as Julia, Sam’s therapist. Joining the show for Season 3 are The Conners’ Sara Gilbert as Sam’s ethics professor, and Will & Grace’s Eric McCormack as Sam’s eccentric art professor, who likes to challenge and inspire his students.

Will & Grace star Eric McCormack has joined the cast of Atypical for its third season.

While Sam is on his funny and emotional journey of self-discovery, the rest of his family must grapple with change in their own lives as they all struggle with the central theme: what does it really mean to be normal?
Jennifer Jason Leigh stars as his mother, Elsa, who is on her own journey of self-discovery. Michael Rapaport plays his father, Doug. Brrigette Lundy-Paine plays Sam’s sister, Casey, and Amy Okuda plays his therapist, Julia. Now, they’ve got a starry new addition to ensemble, with McCormack set to have a recurring guest role in the upcoming season. He will play an eccentric university art professor who loves to challenge and inspire his students.
McCormack is no stranger to Netflix; the streamer recently acquired Canadian sci-fi series Travelers last year, despite then cancelling it after a third season. He announced the news on social media, with production underway on the new episodes. You can expect them to drop later in 2019.

Netflix’s Atypical will return for a third season.

While Sam is on his funny and emotional journey of self-discovery, the rest of his family must grapple with change in their own lives as they all struggle with the central theme: what does it really mean to be normal?

Academy Award winning producer Seth Gordon and Mary Rohlich, who have both worked on hit series and films including Baywatch, The Goldbergs and Horrible Bosses also executive produce alongside Rashid. Jennifer Jason Leigh, who stars as Elsa, also serves as a producer. Michelle Dean, who received her PhD from UCLA and worked at the UCLA Center for Autism and Research and Treatment before joining the faculty of CSU Channel Island, was also brought into the production to help guide an accurate depiction of autism spectrum disorder.
Season 2 launched in September 2018, picking events up as Elsa and Doug faced the aftermath of their marriage crisis and Casey tried to adjust to her new school, while Sam prepared for life after graduation. Now, within a month of its return, Netflix has renewed the programme for Season 3. Another 10 episodes have been ordered. The cast returning for season three has not yet been confirmed.
