Netflix names Sony and LG as recommended TVs

Netflix has named Sony and LG as their recommended TVs for 2016.
Almost a year ago, the VOD giant introduced a “Netflix Recommended TV” sticker in the US, as part of a scheme to help customers find smart TVs that are easier to use – and, of course, to encourage people to sign up Netflix.
As smart TV functionality has evolved, Netflix has introduced new criteria to its rankings, including faster performance thresholds – indeed, it’s a sign of how far consumer expectations have risen that none of last year’s TV models recommended by Netflix would have met its new 2016 criteria.
The scheme has also expanded to other countries too, meaning that this year’s array of endorsed tellies are available in the UK.
Sony and LG are the TV manufacturers leading the pack. LG’s 2016 4K UHD TVs with webOS 3.0 and Sony’s 2016 Android 4K UHD TVs are the first ranges to bear the seal of approval. To be precise, that includes any LG TV in the UH6300, 6500, 7500, 8500, 9500 and G6 series, and Sony’s X85D, X93D and X94D series
Among other benefits, these TVs both have Instant On so that the TV wakes quickly, and Internet TV services and smart menu features are ready to use right away. They also have TV Resume, which means when Netflix was the last used app, the TV comes right back to Netflix when turned back on again – much like smartphones and tablets do today.
