Netflix has nabbed the global rights to Jane the Virgin and Zoo.
Jane The Virgin, which has already aired on E4 in the UK, stars Golden Globe winner Gina Rodriguez as Jane Villanueva, a working, religious young Latina virgin, who becomes pregnant after being artificially inseminated by mistake. The CBS series also stars Justin Baldoni as Rafael, Brett Dier as Michael, Andrea Navedo as Xiomara, Yael Grobglas as Petra, Ivonne Coll as Alba and Jaime Camil as Rogelio.
It has already been renewed for a second season, which will premiere on 12th October in the US, the same day that Season 1 will be released on Netflix US – it will be released at a later date on Netflix UK.
Also from CBS is Zoo, a thriller based on the novel by James Patterson. Following a wave of violent animal attacks against humans around the globe, the show stars James Wolk, Kristen Connolly, Billy Burke, Nora Arnezeder and Nonso Anozie.
The show has already premiered in the UK on Sky 1, with Season 1 now available on Netflix US. It will be added to Netflix UK in the coming months.
“We’re thrilled to offer our members these hit CBS series,” said Ted Sarandos, Chief Content Officer at Netflix, in an official statement. “Both shows are delightfully entertaining and will find a big audience across the more than 50 countries where Netflix is available.”
“We’re excited to partner with Netflix around the world for these two excellent, CBS-produced series,” added Armando Nuñez, President and CEO, CBS Global Distribution Group. “Both Zoo and Jane The Virgin have already generated excitement in the US and internationally, and we look forward to expanding their audience to Netflix members globally.”
