Netflix has inked an overall deal with writer and producer Brad Falchuck.
The veteran and prolific producer has been at 20th Century Fox Television for over a decade, working with Ryan Murphy to create Glee, Scream Queens and 9-1-1, as well as American Horror Story and Pose, plus The Politician. The latter is a Netflix series, Murphy’s first for the streaming giant, after heading there himself with an exclusive, high-profile deal last summer.
Now, Falchuck is also shifting from Fox to the streamer for a four-year overall agreement, which is reported by Deadline to be in the eight figure range. The deal sees Falchuk write, develop and produce new series for Netflix through his Brad Falchuk Teley-Vision banner.
Falchuck’s current deal at Fox is not set to expire until June, but competition for Falchuk’s services led Netflix to chase him early and outbid others. As part of the deal, Falchuk will continue to work on his existing shows at Fox, including 9-1-1, Pose and American Horror Story.
“I have spent my career creating shows that bounce between different genres and tones and I plan on continuing to develop and create programing that spans a wide variety of worlds and formats,” says Falchuk. :During my first meeting with Netflix, they told me – just bring us stories you’re passionate about and we will find a way to help you tell them. That level of support and freedom is inspiring to me.”
“We are thrilled to welcome Brad Falchuk to Netflix,” adds Cindy Holland, VP of Original Content at Netflix. “As a storyteller, Brad is a taste maker and trail blazer, and he is a writer/director with a true knack for piercing the cultural zeitgeist. There is no limit to what Brad can accomplish with Netflix as his new home.”
