In a letter to fans, series creators the Duffer Brothers said: “With nine scripts, over 800 pages, almost 2 years of filming, thousands of visual effects shots, and a runtime nearly twice the length of any previous season, Stranger Things Season 4 was the most challenging season yet, but also the most rewarding.”
Helping to set the tone for the season are a quartet of new posters unveiled today alongside the release date. In the meantime, read on below for more on the episode titles and to watch the later teaser trailer.
Stranger Things 4: New trailer and episode titles unveiled
6th November 2021
Stranger Things Season 4 will officially arrive on our screens in summer 2022, Netflix has announced today – along with the episode titles for the upcoming season and a new trailer for good measure.
The new chapter of Netflix’s retro horror sci-fi hit will see its core cast reprise their roles – including Millie Bobby Brown as Eleven, Noah Schnapp as Will, Finn Wolfhard as Mike, Gaten Matarazzo as Dustin and Caleb McLaughin as Lucas, Cara Buono as Karen, Maya Hawke as Robin, Winona Ryder as Joyce, Sadie Sink as Max, Charlie Heaton as Jonathan and Natalia Dyer as Nancy. It will also see the return of David Harbour as Sheriff Hopper, with Hopper’s back-story expected to be explored.
We’ll be catching up with Eleven as she, Joyce and the family start a new life in sunny California, where she writes eagerly to Mike about the upcoming spring break. But it’s no surprise to find out that what actually awaits isn’t the best holiday ever but another run of weird events and sinister types – as well as the introduction of crucial new location Creel House.
Also introduced in Season 4 will be Jamie Campbell Bower (The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, Sweeney Todd) as Peter Ballard, a caring man who works as an orderly at a psychiatric hospital, plus Robert Englund (A Nightmare on Elm Street Franchise, ‘V’ Television Series) as play Victor Creel, a disturbed and intimidating man who is imprisoned in a psychiatric hospital in the 1950s. They’ll be joined by Amybeth McNulty as Vickie, a band nerd who catches the eye of one of the central group, Myles Truitt as Patrick, a Hawkins basketball star, Regina Ting Chen aka Ms Kelly, a popular guidance counsellor, and Grace Van Dien as Chrissy, Hawkins’ High lead cheerleader.
How will all these elements tie together? The episode titles will give fans plenty to speculate over in the many months ahead: The Hellfire Club, Vecna’s Curse, The Monster and the Superhero, Dear Billy, The Nina Project, The Dive, The Massacre at Hawkins Lab, Papa and The Piggyback.
You can watch the video unveiling the titles below – along with the new teaser.
New Stranger Things 4 trailer introduces us to Creel House
25th September 2021
Stranger Things Season 4 is gradually drawing closer, and a new trailer confirms that the show’s world is expanding with the introduction of a new location and mystery: Creel House.

Where does Creel House fit into all that? Well, the new teaser doesn’t give much away, although we do see our central group of kids stepping gingerly into its creaking hallways to try and work out its secrets for themselves. Expect to get yet more teases and clues in the run-up to Season 4’s debut. That’ll be in 2022.
Trailer: Stranger Things Season 4 set for 2022 release
6th August 2021
Stranger Things will officially not be back on our screens this year, with a new teaser giving us a closer glimpse of Season 4 – and confirming that it will premiere in 2022.
The new run of the retro horror sci-fi hit will see its core cast reprise their roles – including Millie Bobby Brown as Eleven, Noah Schnapp as Will, Finn Wolfhard as Mike, Gaten Matarazzo as Dustin and Caleb McLaughin as Lucas, Cara Buono as Karen, Maya Hawke as Robin, Winona Ryder as Joyce, Sadie Sink as Max, Charlie Heaton as Jonathan and Natalia Dyer as Nancy. While we don’t get much more than that from the new teaser, it’s a concentrated rush of new images, locations and spectacle that announces Season 4 as an ambitious, expansive chapter. Speaking to Collider and Variety, exec-producer Shawn Levy recently promised that it would be “visually and narratively very ambitious, much more ambitious than the prior three seasons… It’s the scale of this season and the multi-settings of season four.”
As for whether there will be a Season 5, Levy also admitted that the end is “in sight” for the creative team, led by the Duffer brothers, which suggests that while there’s still a wait until Season 4, there may not be many more seasons after that.
Amybeth McNulty leads new cast additions to Stranger Things Season 4
10th June 2021
Stranger Things is adding a host of new cast members for Season 4, and leading the way is none other than Anne with an E star Amybeth McNulty.
Netflix’s adaptation of Anne of Green Gables – a book that has previously appeared in Stranger Things, when Hopper read it to Eleven – was cancelled after Season 3. Now, though, Amybeth McNulty fans can see her in action once again as Vickie, described by showrunners the Duffer Brothers as “a cool, fast talking band nerd who catches the eye of one of our beloved heroes”.
Other additions include: Myles Truitt as Patrick, a Hawkins basketball star “who has friends, talent, and a good life… until shocking events send his life spiralling out of control”; Regina Ting Chen aka Ms Kelly, “a popular guidance counsellor who cares deeply for her students — especially those struggling the most”; and Grace Van Dien as Chrissy, Hawkins’ High lead cheerleader and the most popular girl in school, whose seemingly perfect surface hides a dark secret.
The news was announced as part of Netflix’s online fan event Geeked Week, with the Duffer Brothers introducing McNulty in a video recorded on set. At the same time, Netflix also announced a full-cast fiction podcast and companion young adult novel based around Season 3 breakout character Robin Buckley, played by Maya Hawke.
They join the core cast reprising their roles – including Millie Bobby Brown as Eleven, Noah Schnapp as Will, Finn Wolfhard as Mike, Gaten Matarazzo as Dustin and Caleb McLaughin as Lucas, Cara Buono as Karen, Maya Hawke as Robin, Winona Ryder as Joyce, Sadie Sink as Max, Charlie Heaton as Jonathan and Natalia Dyer as Nancy. Watch: New teaser for Stranger Things Season 4
6th May 2021
Production for Stranger Things Season 4 is underway, and a new video gives us a fresh glimpse of the show’s return.
The enigmatic video gives us a couple of numbers, a creepy peek inside a shady institute that takes us all the way back to Season 1. And, well, not much else – but it’s certainly a reminder that the series is coming back, eventually, for a fourth chapter, after filming was delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The new run will see its core cast reprise their roles – including Millie Bobby Brown as Eleven, Noah Schnapp as Will, Finn Wolfhard as Mike, Gaten Matarazzo as Dustin and Caleb McLaughin as Lucas, Cara Buono as Karen, Maya Hawke as Robin, Winona Ryder as Joyce, Sadie Sink as Max, Charlie Heaton as Jonathan and Natalia Dyer as Nancy. Expect a bit of a wait to find out more details – and lots of fan speculation in the meantime.

Stranger Things Season 4: Robert Englund, Jamie Campbell Bower lead new cast additions
21st November 2020
A wave of new faces are heading to Hawkins, Indiana, as Season 4 of Stranger Things adds new cast members to its ensemble.
It will also see the return of David Harbour as Sheriff Hopper, with Hopper’s back-story expected to be explored.
These familiar faces, though, will be joined by a growing number of new cast additions, as the show increases in scale. Jamie Campbell Bower (The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, Sweeney Todd) is leading the new series regulars as Peter Ballard, a caring man who works as an orderly at a psychiatric hospital. Tired of the brutality he witnesses day after day, will Peter finally take a stand?
Eduardo Franco (Booksmart, The Binge) will play Argyle, Jonathan’s new best friend, a fun-loving stoner who proudly delivers delicious pizza pies for Surfer Boy Pizza.
Joseph Quinn (Catherine the Great, Howards End) will play Eddie Munson, an audacious 80’s metalhead who runs The Hellfire Club, Hawkins High’s official D&D club. Hated by those who don’t understand him – and beloved by those who do – Eddie will find himself at the terrifying epicentre of this season’s mystery.
A number of recurring roles have also been cast. Most intriguing of all is Robert Englund (A Nightmare on Elm Street Franchise, ‘V’ Television Series) as play Victor Creel, a disturbed and intimidating man who is imprisoned in a psychiatric hospital for a gruesome murder in the 1950s.
Sherman Augustus (Into the Badlands, Westworld) will play Lt. Colonel Sullivan. An intelligent, no-nonsense man who believes he knows how to stop the evil in Hawkins once and for all.
Mason Dye (Bosch, The Goldbergs) will play Jason Carver. Jason seemingly has it all – he’s handsome, he’s rich, he’s a sports star, and he’s dating the most popular girl in school. But as a new evil threatens Hawkins, Jason’s perfect world begins to unravel.
Nikola Djuricko (Genius, In The Land of Blood and Honey) will play Yuri, a seedy and unpredictable Russian smuggler who loves bad jokes, cold hard cash, and crunchy style peanut butter.
Tom Wlaschiha (Game of Thrones, Jack Ryan) will play Dmitri, a Russian prison guard who befriends Hopper. Dmitri is smart, cunning, and charming… but can he be trusted?
A love letter to the 80s classic genre films that captivated a generation, Netflix’s retro sci-fi horror is currently underway on its fourth season, after its production was previously disrupted by the coronavirus pandemic.
David Harbour drops details on Stranger Things Season 4
23rd June 2020
David Harbour has dropped the first major details about what to expect from Stranger Things Season 4.
Filming on the hit Netflix sci-fi-horror-retro-coming-of-age thriller was halted a few weeks in by the coronavirus outbreak, which means that we’re some way off getting anywhere near a finished season. The last we heard of the show was back in March, just before the pandemic and ensuing lockdown, when Brett Gelman was reportedly promoted to a series regular – and shortly after David Harbour was confirmed to be returning to reprise his role as Sheriff Hopper. (Other returning cast members include Millie Bobby Brown as Eleven, Noah Schnapp as Will, Finn Wolfhard as Mike, Gaten Matarazzo as Dustin and Caleb McLaughin as Lucas. Also returning are Cara Buono as Karen, Maya Hawke as Robin, Winona Ryder as Joyce, Sadie Sink as Max, Charlie Heaton as Jonathan and Natalia Dyer as Nancy.)
Now, Harbour has been speaking about what’s in store for the show, telling Deadline that we will “see some of Hopper’s deep backstory”. That will also tie into the boxes Eleven discovered in his attic back in Season 2, one labelled “Vietnam”, one “New York” and one “Dad”.
“I’m really excited to let people see these really deep colors in him,” he teased. “Each season we see a different side of him.”
Indeed, Hopper was notably darker in Season 3, with his behaviour towards Eleven and Winona Ryder’s Joyce questioned by fans.
“He is painted in a bit of a darker palette,” Harbour noted of Season 4. “He’s able to express some of these deep things that we’ve… hinted at.”
Harbour’s return was confirmed by the very first teaser for Season 4, but the show still has surprises in store, with the actor describing the upcoming run as “very epic”, with “monsters and horror and scares” and some “great Indiana Jones-type action”.
Aside from his comments, the other official information we have on Season 4 is the cryptic synopsis released by Netflix back when it confirmed Hopper’s return: We catch up with him imprisoned far from home in the snowy wasteland of Kamchatka, where he will face dangers both human and… other. Meanwhile, back in the States, a new horror is beginning to surface, something long buried that connects everything.
Brett Gelman promoted to series regular on Stranger Things 4
3rd March 2020
Brett Gelman has reportedly been promoted to a series regular on Stranger Things Season 4.
Gelman, who has impressed Judd Apatow’s Love and Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s Fleabag, is known to Stranger Things fans as Murray Bauman, the eccentric journalist and conspiracy theorist who appeared in Season 2 and 3. Now, with production underway on the hit show’s fourth run, sources have told Deadline that Murray will be a more notable presence in the coming episodes.
The news comes after another major casting update, with David Harbour confirmed to return as Hopper once more. Other returning cast members include Millie Bobby Brown as Eleven, Noah Schnapp as Will, Finn Wolfhard as Mike, Gaten Matarazzo as Dustin and Caleb McLaughin as Lucas. Also returning are Cara Buono as Karen, Maya Hawke as Robin, Winona Ryder as Joyce, Sadie Sink as Max, Charlie Heaton as Jonathan and Natalia Dyer as Nancy.

Watch: Hopper returns in Stranger Things Season 4
14th February 2020
Production on Stranger Things 4 is officially underway, the show’s creators, The Duffer Brothers, have confirmed – and, in case fans weren’t anticipating it enough, they’ve also confirmed that David Harbour will once again return to play Hopper.
Although it’s not all good news for the “American”, as we catch up with him imprisoned far from home in the snowy wasteland of Kamchatka, where he will face dangers both human and… other. Meanwhile, back in the States, a new horror is beginning to surface, something long buried that connects everything.
“Season 4 is shaping up to be the biggest and most frightening season yet, and we cannot wait for everyone to see more,” say The Duffer Brothers. “In the meantime – pray for the American.”
Here’s the teaser video for Season 4:
Stranger Things Season 4 episode title revealed
10th November 2019
It’s still many, many months from even knowing a release date for Stranger Things Season 4, but the writers are keen to reassure fans that things are still progressing, with the first episode’s title unveiled this week.
Netflix’s sci-fi horror smash hit, which follows the threat of creatures from the Upside Down in the small town of Hawkins, Indiana, is one of the streaming giant’s biggest shows, thanks to its combination of an entertaining young ensemble, creepy CGI and nostalgic adventure vibes.
Season 3 broke records, with 40.7 million household accounts watching Season 3 in its opening four days, more than any other Netflix film or original series to date.
It wasn’t long, then, until Netflix confirmed the inevitable renewal of the show for a fourth season, with a teaser video warning us that we’re not in Hawkins anymore.
Indeed, Season 3 ended with a finale that widened the horizons significantly for the series, as Joyce, Jonathan, Will, and Eleven moved out of town and Hopper was possibly trapped in a Russian prison.
Now, we’ve got another clue as to what might be in store, with the first episode’s title confirmed as “Chapter One: The Hellfire Club”. The show’s writers unveiled the title on Twitter with the caption “Looking for new members… are you in?”.
The unveiling was in time to tie into what Netflix has dubbed Stranger Things Day, which is 6th November to mark the anniversary of when Will Byers first went missing in 1983.
But while the day saw a glut of bloopers and other goofy videos released online by the cast and creators, more interesting are the implications for the episode’s title, which most notably appears to be paying homage to the Hellfire Club that exists in the X-Men world. In the comics, the group is a band of villains who kidnap Jean Grey to unleash her inner Dark Phoenix power for nefarious purposes. Grey, of course, bears some resemblance to Eleven’s own inner telekinetic power that can have devastating consequences.
It’s not the first time Stranger Things has nodded to X-Men, with Episode 1 seeing Dusting borrow a comic from Will Byers: Issue 134 of Uncanny X-Men, the start of the Jean Grey, Dark Phoenix comic book arc. The result may just tell us that the creators of Stranger Things really like X-Men, but with parallels between Jean Grey and Eleven already well dissected across the web, that loaded title may well suggest Season 4 will see Eleven in danger…
Netflix confirms Stranger Things will return for Season 4
30th September 2019
It’s official: Stranger Things will return for Season 4.
“A masterclass in mixing light and dark, Stranger Things’ third season sees the show hit its stride,” we wrote in our review.
Season 3 marked a more dramatic turn for the show, as the teens grew up and developed romantic connections, and as Sheriff Hopper turned dark in his attempts to parent Eleven and woo Joyce. The end of the season left his fate in doubt, with the tease of him potentially languishing in a Russian jail cell, and if that spelled an increasingly ambitious direction for the show, Season 4’s first teaser confirms it: we’re not in Hawkins anymore, declares the video, which doesn’t feature any characters or monsters but does make it clear that the series is looking to explore the Upside Down further. When Season 4 will air is anyone’s guess, but bigger things seem certain to come. Here’s the cryptic teaser announcing the show’s renewal:
