Netflix has announced an August release date for Narcos.
The streaming service’s new series rounds off a summer of original projects, which ranges from kids’ spin-off Dragons: Race to the Edge in June to Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp and BoJack Horseman Season 2 in July.
Narcos chronicles the gripping real-life stories of the true story of US and Colombian efforts in the 1980s to battle the infamous Pablo Escobar and the Medellin drug cartel. From legal and political to police and military forces, the groups clash in an effort to control the world’s most powerful commodity: cocaine.
The series re-partners creator and executive producer Jose Padilha (Elite Squad, RoboCop) with Brazilian actor Wanger Moura (Elite Squad, Elysium) as Pablo Escobar, alongside Boyd Holbrook (Gone Girl) and Pedro Pascal (Game of Thrones) as real-life DEA agents Steve Murphy and Javier Pena.
The series also features Colombia’s Juan Pablo Raba (El Corazon Del Oceano) and Manolo Cardona (Covert Affairs), British theatre star Joanna Christie (Once), Mexican actress Stephanie Sigman (soon to appear in Spectre), Puerto Rican star Luis Guzman (Boogie Nights) and Eastbound & Down’s Ana de la Reguera.
Narcos is produced by Gaumont Television. Eric Newman (Children of Men), Chris Brancato (Hannibal), Doug Miro and Carlos Bernard (Sorcerer’s Apprentice) serve as executive producers on the series.
The show will premiere on Friday 28th August 2015.
