Trailer: Gillian Jacobs, Richard Madden and Netflix head to Ibiza

Gillian Jacobs, Richard Madden and Netflix are heading to Ibiza this May, and a new trailer gives us a glimpse of the NSFW chaos the unfolds.
The comedy, written by Lauryn Kahn, co-stars Saturday Night Liver Vanessa Bayer and Phoebe Robinson (2 Dope Queens) and follows Harper (Jacobs), a single 30-something New Yorker with awesome friends she loves and a dead-end job she hates. So when her controlling, condescending, germophobic nightmare of a boss sends her on a business trip to Barcelona, she jumps at the chance to shake up her routine.
Flanked by her two best pals, the work trip goes awry when Harper’s two best friends tag along. Harper lets loose in the land of Sangria, where a bit of surprising body graffiti leads to a flirty encounter with a famous DJ (Madden). What happens in Ibiza stays in Ibiza… right?
Ibiza premieres on Netflix worldwide on Friday 25th May. Here’s the trailer:
Ibiza is available on Netflix UK, as part of an £9.99 monthly subscription.
Richard Madden joins Gillian Jacobs in Netflix’s Ibiza
5th August 2017
Richard Madden is flying out to join Gillian Jacobs in Netflix’s new comedy, Ibiza.
The Game of Thrones star, who recently co-starred in The Take (aka. Bastille Day) with Idris Elba, has signed on to streaming giant’s R-rated film. The project, which is produced by Will Ferrell’s Gary Sanchez Productions, sees Jacobs play a young woman whose two best friends come with her on a work trip to Barcelona and Ibiza that evolves into a crazy hunt for a popular DJ.
The project first began life as a spec script by Lauryn Kahn for Sony, with the working title “I’m in Love with the DJ”. Now, Variety confirms that Madden will play said DJ, joining a cast that includes departing Saturday Night Liver Vanessa Bayer and Phoebe Robinson (2 Dope Queens).
Madden is, of course, no stranger to streaming: he starred in Medici: Masters of Florence, which Netflix snapped up as a Netflix Original last year, as well the pilot for Amazon’s sci-fi series Oasis, and will soon be seen in Philip K. Dick’s Electric Dreams, a co-production between Amazon Studios and Channel 4.
Production on Ibiza is to begin this month, with Alex Richanbach directing.
Netflix and Gillian Jacobs are going to Ibiza
30th June 2017
Netflix is heading to Ibiza this summer with Gillian Jacobs for a new comedy film.
The comedy, which began at Sony, is from an R-rated spec script by Lauryn Kahn, with the working title I’m in Love with The DJ. The project is produced by Gary Sanchez Productions, with Will Ferrell, Adam McKay and Kevin Messick producing alongside Good Universe’s Nathan Kahane, Joe Drake, and Erin Westerman.
That was back in 2014, when Kahn (the former assistant of McKay) began to sell scripts, such as He’s F*ckin’ Perfect, which went to Fox (and then Universal, retitled as The Social Life) for $1.5 million.
The film is directed by Alex Richanbach, who, like Kahn, used to write for Funny or Die before stepping up to feature films. As well as reunion of sorts for the duo, it also brings together Gary Sanchez and Good Universe, after they recently collaborated on The House, starring Will Ferrell and Amy Poehler. Netflix, meanwhile, is having a reunion of its own, with the star of rom-com Love, Gillian Jacobs, leading a cast that also includes departing Saturday Night Liver Vanessa Bayer and Phoebe Robinson (2 Dope Queens).
Jacobs will play a young woman whose two best friends come with her on a work trip to Barcelona and Ibiza that evolves into a crazy hunt for a popular DJ. Further casting for the film is now underway in Los Angeles, London and Spain, with production on the Netflix film to begin in August.
