Netflix acquires Will & Harper
Netflix has acquired the Sundance hit Will & Harper.
The film, which is directed by Josh Greenbaum, follows Will Ferrell who finds out his close friend of 30 years, Harper Steele, is coming out as a trans woman. The two decide to embark on a cross-country road trip to process this new stage of their relationship in an intimate portrait of friendship, transition and America.
Produced by Rafael Marmor, Will Ferrell and Jessica Elbaum for Gloria Sanchez, Josh Greenbaum and Christopher Leggett, the film is co-produced by Samantha Apfel and Carolina Barlow, and exec-produced by Justin Baldoni, Andrew Calof, Jamey Heath and Steve Sarowitz for Wayfarer Studios.
The documentary was one of the buzziest titles at this year’s festival, leading to a large deal from Netflix – following the streamer’s acquisition of several other documentaries from the 2024 Sundance line-up.
The filmmakers said: “We are thrilled about how audiences received the movie with open arms at Sundance. It’s a movie about the power of friendship and acceptance, that we hope can help shift the culture, and so we are excited to have a partner in Netflix that has the ability to reach the largest possible audience worldwide.”
