Anime fans counting down to being able to watch Neon Genesis Evangelion don’t have much longer to wait: the mind-bending mecha anime will hit Netflix this June.
The cult classic, which was broadcast in Tokyo in 1995, takes place in A.D. 2015. Tokyo 3 is under attack by powerful creatures known as the Angels. The protagonist, Shinji Ikari, is chosen to pilot the Humanoid Decisive Weapon Evangelion – the only way for humanity to fight against the Angels. The battle for the fate of humanity starts now. What exactly are the Angels? What fate awaits the young pilots and humanity itself?
Now, the anime — along with both films EVANGELION:DEATH TRUE² and The End of Evangelion — will be available to stream worldwide for the first time in history, with all 26 episodes landing on Netflix on 21st June. It joins a string of anime projects unveiled by Netflix in recent months, including Rilakkuma and Kaoru and 7SEEDS, as well as a newly expanded deal with multiple Japanese studios to produce series such as a new Altered Carbon spin-off.
