Montréal International Documentary Festival releases films for free on Festival Scope

The 21st Montreal International Documentary Festival (RIDM) may have already finished, but you can still watch films from the festival for free wherever you are in the world.
Quebec’s only all-documentary festival, which ran from 9th November to 18th November, screened 157 films from 47 countries, with ticket sales up 6 per cent year-on-year. Among this year’s highlights were successful retrospectives focusing on two major filmmakers who were still relatively unknown in Quebec: Brazilian director Maria Augusta Ramos and Japanese director Kazuhiro Soda. Starting with a very well received opening film, Le rêve de Walaa (What Walaa Wants), the 2018 RIDM also included award-winning international documentaries (Hale County This Morning, This Evening; Beautiful Things; Of Fathers and Sons), as well as works from Quebec and the rest of Canada. Hale County This Morning, This Evening, Dark Suns, and Memory is our Homeland were this year’s three major award winners for best international film, best Canadian film, and the audience award respectively.
From the day after the festival’s close, RIDM then launched on Festival Scope, with select titles available to stream worldwide for those unable to attend the event. It joins a growing number of festivals using Festival Scope to stream things internationally, either for free or for a small price, including Locarno and Venice.
Here’s the line-up of RIDM movies on Festival Scope, which are available until Monday 3rd December.
