The series co-stars Mary McDonnell as Madeline Usher, Roderick’s sister and the “hidden hand” of the dynasty, Carl Lumbly as C Auguste Dupin, Mark Hamill as a “new addition to the dark worlds of Edgar Allan Poe”, Henry Thomas, Samantha Sloyan, T’Nia Miller, Rahul Kohli, Kate Siegel, Sauriyan Sapkota, Zach Gilford, Katie Parker, Michael Trucco, Malcolm Goodwin, Crystal Balint, Kyleigh Curran, Paolo Nuñez, Aya Furukawa, Matt Biedel, Daniel Jun, Ruth Codd, Robert Longstreet, Annabeth Gish, Igby Rigney and JayR Tinaco.
Joining them is another Flanagan veteran, Carla Gugino, as shapeshifter called Verna, whose name will ring a bell for anyone familiar with a famous Poe figure.
“It’s batshit crazy in the best possible way,” Gugino said during production. “It has quite a lot of very dark humor, but also really touches the soul. There is a fantastical supernatural element to the story, and she is the manifestation of that. You could say she’s the executor of fate or the executor of karma.”
The series premieres on Netflix on 12th October. Here’s the trailer:

Bruce Greenwood replaces Frank Langella in The Fall of the House of Usher
2nd May 2023
Bruce Greenwood has joined the cast of The Fall of the House of Usher, replacing Frank Langella after he was removed from the series.
Langella was the subject of an investigation after actor was accused of sexual harassment, including making an inappropriate joke to a co-star on set.
Mike Flanagan’s eight-episode drama is a modern remix of some of the most iconic works of Edgar Allan Poe, including the titular story. The show draws on other Poe works as well. Filming on the show continued with other scenes not involving Langella’s character, with any scenes that he had already filmed lined up for reshoots. Now, his replacement has been found, with Greenwood taking the lead role of Roderick Usher, the patriarch of the titular dynasty.
Greenwood (The Resident, The People v OJ Simpson) is no stranger to Flanagan, having worked with the director on Gerald’s Game and Doctor Sleep. He joins a cast that includes Mary McDonnell as Madeline Usher, Roderick’s sister and the “hidden hand” of the dynasty, Carl Lumbly as C Auguste Dupin, Mark Hamill as a “new addition to the dark worlds of Edgar Allan Poe”, Carla Gugino, Henry Thomas, Samantha Sloyan, T’Nia Miller, Rahul Kohli, Kate Siegel, Sauriyan Sapkota, Zach Gilford, Katie Parker, Michael Trucco, Malcolm Goodwin, Crystal Balint, Kyleigh Curran, Paolo Nuñez, Aya Furukawa, Matt Biedel, Daniel Jun, Ruth Codd, Robert Longstreet, Annabeth Gish, Igby Rigney and JayR Tinaco.
Frank Langella fired from Fall of the House of Usher following misconduct investigation
14th April 2021
Frank Langella has been fired from Netflix’s The Fall of the House of Usher following a misconduct investigation, according to Deadline.
Netflix hasn’t officially commented on the report, but the 84-year-old actor was reportedly the subject of an investigation after actor was accused of sexual harassment, including making inappropriate comments to a co-star on set.
Langella had the lead role in the Mike Flanagan miniseries, which is a modern remix of some of the most iconic works of Edgar Allan Poe. He was set to play Roderick Usher, the patriarch of the titular dynasty. Now, though, Deadline reports that Langella’s role will be recast, with any scenes that he has already filmed set to be reshot. Langella was already not scheduled to work this week, so filming on the series will continue with other scenes not involving the character.
The eight-episode drama co-stars Mary McDonnell as Madeline Usher, Roderick’s sister and the “hidden hand” of the dynasty, Carl Lumbly as C Auguste Dupin, Mark Hamill as a “new addition to the dark worlds of Edgar Allan Poe”, Carla Gugino, Henry Thomas, Samantha Sloyan, T’Nia Miller, Rahul Kohli, Kate Siegel, Sauriyan Sapkota, Zach Gilford, Katie Parker, Michael Trucco, Malcolm Goodwin, Crystal Balint, Kyleigh Curran, Paolo Nuñez, Aya Furukawa, Matt Biedel, Daniel Jun, Ruth Codd, Robert Longstreet, Annabeth Gish, Igby Rigney and JayR Tinaco.
The series is the latest in a growing line of projects made by Flanagan and Netflix – Flanagan’s Intrepid Pictures banner has an overall deal with the streamer – including The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor and Midnight Mass.

Mike Flanagan lines up The Fall of the House of Usher at Netflix
8th October 2021
Mike Flanagan is readying to chronicle The Fall of the House of Usher in a new series at Netflix.
The Oculus and Doctor Sleep director has established his own universe of small screen horror at Netflix, including The Haunting of Hill House and The Haunting of Bly Manor. Now, just weeks after the debut of his latest series, Midnight Mass, Flanagan is already working with Netflix again on a new series.
The Fall of the House of Usher will, Bly Manor-style be based on multiple works by Edgar Allan Poe, whose titular short story is just the tip of the iceberg of his own horror output. Which other stories, characters or plots will be involved in the mix are, naturally, being kept under wraps – but, with Netflix ordering eight episodes, it means we have an idea of what we’ll be watching next Halloween.
Flanagan will direct four episodes and serve as exec-producer on the project.
