Mike Colter will play Luke Cage in Netflix’s Marvel series.
The Good Wife actor, who has just appeared in the Xbox Originals series Halo: Nightfall, will star as the superhero opposite Breaking Bad’s Krysten Ritter for Netflix’s Marvel’s A.K.A. Jessica Jones, before going on to have his own series.
Cage was first created by Marvel back in 1972 and has appeared alongside Jessica Jones previously. The 13-episode show sees Jessica Jones rebuilding her personal life and career as a detective in New York City, after a tragic ending to her short-lived super hero stint, only to get pulled into cases involving people with extraordinary abilities.
During the course of an investigation, the investigator will encounter the enigmatic Luke Cage – a man whose past has secrets that, according to Marvel, will “dramatically alter Jessica in ways she could never have imagined”.
“Fans have longed to see Luke Cage and in Mike we’ve found the perfect actor,” said Jeph Loeb, Executive Producer/Marvel’s Head of Television.
“Viewers will get to meet Luke Cage in ‘Marvel’s A.K.A. Jessica Jones,’ and experience why he is such an important super hero in the Marvel mythos.”
Executive Producer/Showrunner Melissa Rosenberg says that Colter was cast because he “embodies the strength, edge and depth” of the character.
The show will premiere on Netflix in 2015 following Marvel’s Daredevil.
