Marvel has released the first full photo of Daredevil’s Kingpin.
The villain, who needs no introduction to fans of the comics, will be played by Vincent D’Onofrio, who has been in everything from Full Metal Jacket to The Judge.
A businessman with the real name of Wilson Fisk, The Kingpin rules over the crime scene of New York’s Hell’s Kitchen, keeping everything in order. Meanwhile, after being blinded as a child, Charlie Cox’s lawyer, Matt Murdock, decides to become a masked vigilante to tackle the out-of-control injustice of Hell’s Kitchen. While their aims may sound broadly similar, Cox’s Man Without Fear ends up head-to-head against the corrupt bad guy.
D’Onofrio’s casting is in keeping with the series’ gritty, realistic aims: the show has been described by its creators as closer in tone to The Wire than traditional caper adventures, with Exec Producer Steven S. DeKnight citing classics such as The French Connection and Taxi Driver as influences.
Fisk can be seen briefly in the trailer for the show, but this is our first proper look at the Kingpin:
Expect more photos and information to be released in the coming weeks, as Daredevil’s 10th April premiere draws closer.
The series is the first of several Marvel shows to be produced in coordination with Netflix, with A.K.A. Jessica Jones set to arrive later this year. You can watch the trailer here.
