Lionsgate gives Military Wives early digital release

Lionsgate is the latest distributor to break the theatrical window and release Military Waves early on digital in the UK.
It has been just over a week since cinemas shut their doors across the UK amid safety concerns and government restrictions regarding the coronavirus pandemic.
On Friday 20th March, Universal swiftly reacted by releasing The Hunt, The Invisible Man and Emma early on digital platforms, only a matter of days and weeks after their theatrical debuts – a step that would have been unthinkable just a couple of months ago.
Since then, Sony has also moved to release Bloodshot early on digital platforms from today, after it braved the box office during these turbulent viral times, and saw its takings plummet accordingly. Now, Lionsgate is joining the pack with its new comedy arriving just a few weeks after its cinema debut, which was increasingly impacted by audiences staying at home. By the time cinema closures were official, the film had taken almost £3 million at the box office.
Starring Sharon Horgan and Krisin Scott Thomas, it follows a group of women in England whose partners are away serving in Afghanistan. Faced with the men’s absences, they form a choir and quickly find themselves at the centre of a media sensation and global movement.
It is available to rent for the same premium VOD rental price of £15.99 as Universal’s titles. You can watch it on iTunes, Prime Video, Curzon Home Cinema, Sky Store, Rakuten TV, TalkTalk TV and Google Play.
