Legends of Tomorrow to land on Sky 1 in UK

Legends of Tomorrow has landed a UK broadcaster in the form of Sky 1, with an air date of early 2016.
The move is no surprise: the channel has established itself as the home of DC Comics’ TV adventures, with deals already in place with The CW for Arrow and The Flash. Earlier this year, Sky 1 strengthened its hold on the Marvel rival’s small-screen output with the rights to CBS’ Supergirl. That show attracted a consolidated audience of 1.64 million for its debut episode – the largest for a series launch on Sky 1 since 2013. And her success continues, as she draws in an average weekly audience of over 1.1m (you can read our reviews here). Season 4 of Arrow, meanwhile, is attracting some of its biggest audiences since 2013, and The Flash is one of Sky 1’s top performing shows ever.
Adam MacDonald, director of Sky 1, says: “Hot on the heels of the amazing success of Supergirl, I’m really pleased to announce that another exciting comic-book drama is coming to the channel. From the team behind our three best-loved superhero shows and with a great high-profile cast, there’s real pedigree behind DC’s Legends of Tomorrow. And it’s set in the same world as The Flash and Arrow, too, so it couldn’t be more suited to Sky 1.”
In DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, time-traveling rogue Rip Hunter (Arthur Darvill), having seen the future, must put together a group of both heroes and villains to take on the formidable, unstoppable threat of Vandal Savage – a threat that not only puts the planet but all of time itself at stake.
Starring Victor Garber (The Flash), Brandon Routh (Arrow’s Ray Palmer), Arthur Darvill (Doctor Who), Caity Lotz (Arrow’s Sara Lance) Ciara Renée (The Flash), Franz Drameh (Edge of Tomorrow), with Dominic Purcell (The Flash, Prison Break) and Wentworth Miller (The Flash, Prison Break), the series brings together several iconic DC characters, including Firestorm, The Atom (aka Ray), White Canary (aka Sara), Hawkgirl, Captain Cold and Heatwave to fight Savage.
The spin-off, from Berlanti Productions (the same company responsible for Arrow, The Flash and Supergirl), is executive produced by king of DC’s TV empire Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg (The Flash, Arrow, Fringe), Marc Guggenheim (Arrow), Phil Klemmer (Chuck, The Tomorrow People) and Sarah Schechter (The Flash, Arrow, The Mysteries of Laura, Supergirl).
The show will air “early 2016”, says Sky. While an exact date isn’t confirmed yet, we do know that it will also be available for NOW users to watch online.
The VOD platform, which is owned by Sky, offers access to pay-TV channels both live and on-demand without a long, expensive contract. NOW’s “Entertainment Membership” includes Sky Atlantic (The Affair Seasons 1 and 2) and FOX UK (The Walking Dead Season 6) for £6.99 a month, not to mention The Flash Season 2, Arrow Season 4 and Supergirl – a veritable superhero streaming bonanza.
