“Let’s get this party started,” declares Kurt Russell in the full trailer for Netflix’s The Christmas Chronicles. Or, to be more exact, declares Kurt Russell as Santa Claus, as he steps into the iconic red and white outfit for a holiday adventure.

Produced by Chris Columbus (Home Alone) and directed by Clay Kaytis (The Angry Birds Movie), it follows sister and brother Kate (Darby Camp) and Teddy Pierce (Judah Lewis), whose Christmas Eve plan to catch Santa Claus (Russell) on camera turns into an unexpected journey that most kids could only dream about. After staking out Santa’s arrival, they sneak into his sleigh, cause it to crash and nearly derail Christmas. As their wild night unfolds, Kate and Teddy work together with Santa – as you’ve never seen him before – and his loyal Elves to save Christmas before it’s too late.

“No one is better suited than Kurt Russell to bring our version of a rugged, charismatic, and hilarious Santa Claus to life,” says Kaytis. “From our first meeting, he completely threw himself into this iconic role – and grew an impressive beard in the process. It has been a dream come true to work with Kurt in creating what I believe will be the new definition of Santa Claus for generations to come.”

Kurt Russell is Santa in Netflix’s The Christmas Chronicles

He sees you when you’re sleeping. He knows when you’re awake. He’s Kurt Russell. That’s the pitch for Netflix’s new Christmas movie, The Christmas Chronicles.

Yes, Netflix is getting back in the festive movie game, following its first three seasonal feature films last year: Christmas Inheritance, El Camino Christmas and A Christmas Prince (soon to be followed by a sequel, A Christmas Prince: The Royal Wedding.

This time, it’s packing a holiday heavyweight in its stocking: Chris Columbus, the man who brought us Home Alone and Harry Potter. Columbus produces The Christmas Chronicles, which is directed by Clay Kaytis (The Angry Birds Movie) and tells the story of sister and brother Kate (Darby Camp) and Teddy Pierce (Judah Lewis), whose Christmas Eve plan to catch Santa Claus (Kurt Russell) on camera turns into an unexpected journey that most kids could only dream about.
