Fonda. Tomlin. Netflix. Friends. Four giants you never expected to see in the same paragraph, let alone the same TV series, are joining together to make Grace and Frankie.
Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin will star in the Netflix original comedy TV show, made by Marta Kauffman, the creator of TV sitcom Friends.
The Oscar-winning and Oscar-nominated acting legends play a pair of bitter rivals brought together by love. The trouble? It’s not theirs.
The single-camera comedy will follow nemeses Grace (Fonda) and Frankie (Tomlin), who face an unexpected last chapter of their lives after their husbands announce they are in love with each other and plan to get married.
The series will be made up of 13 half-hour episodes and is written and created by Friends creator Marta Kauffman, Howard J. Morris and Paula Weinstein.
“Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin are among the funniest and most formidable actresses ever and it’s an incredible privilege to give them the opportunity to run riot on Netflix,” said Ted Sarandos, Netflix Chief Content Officer, who describes the show as “warm, very funny and anything but wholesome”.
Grace and Frankie will premiere on Netflix next year.
