Into the Unknown: Making Frozen 2 doc heads to Disney+

Disney+ is taking Frozen fans behind the making of Frozen 2 with a new original documentary.
Into the Unknown: Making Frozen 2 is a six-part series that sees filmmakers, artists, songwriters and cast open their doors to cameras to reveal the hard work, heart and collaboration it takes to create one of the most highly-anticipated films in Walt Disney Animation Studios’ near-century of moviemaking. For the first time, cameras were there to capture an eye-opening view of the challenges and the breakthroughs, the artistry, creativity and the complexity of creating the hit sequel.
The documentary follows another behind-the-scenes docuseries, Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian, which looks to do the same with Disney+’s flagship Star Wars series. The move follows our prediction at the beginning of the year that special features would become more prominent, as rival streaming services increasingly look to highlight their own exclusive and original content – and, in a digital age, start to recreate the DVD and Blu-ray experience for streaming viewers as a value-add proposition. Indeed, while iTunes Extras have largely been the dominant player, Netflix is increasingly releasing small featurettes on YouTube and buried within each title’s screen on its platform. Disney+, however, is going one step further by positioning its making-of documentaries as original series in their own right.
All six episodes of Into the Unknown: Making Frozen 2 will be released on Friday 26th June on Disney+.
