Futurama renewed for two more seasons

Good news, everyone! Futurama will return once again to our screens for two new seasons.
First airing on FOX from 1999-2003, Matt Groening and David X Cohen’s animated series follows Philip Fry (Billy West), a 25-year-old pizza delivery boy who accidentally freezes himself on 31 December 1999 and wakes up 1,000 years later with a fresh start at life and a new group of friends including Leela (Katey Sagal), a tough but lovely one-eyed alien and Bender, a robot who possesses human characteristics and flaws.
The show has had a rollercoaster ride since its debut, with four direct-to-DVD movies in 2007 and a revival in 2010 that ended in 2013. Then, Hulu brought it back once more for 20 new episodes, broken down into two chunks of 20 episodes. The first 10 aired in July 2023, streaming on Disney+ in the UK, with the full cast reprising their roles – including John DiMaggio as Bender, plus Tress MacNeille, Maurice LaMarche, Lauren Tom, Phil LaMarr and David Herman.
Now, Hulu has ordered another 20 episodes, even before the second run of 10 already-commissioned episodes has aired. That means you can expect not just a second run most likely in 2024, but also another two runs of 10 episodes. With July 2023’s chapter officially regarded as Season 11, and the next run as Season 12, that means Hulu’s effectively renewed Futurama for Season 13 and 14.
The show is now one of Hulu’s flagship adult animated shows that make up its Animayhem brand – and, in the UK, is a key component of the adult-friendly Disney+ brand, Star.
The renewal comes as Disney has announced that it will soon own Hulu outright, with the company set to acquire the 33 per cent stake that’s currently held by Comcast.
