Inside: Bo Burnham releases unseen material from Netflix special

Bo Burnham has dropped a surprise treat online for fans this week, with an hour of unseen material from his Netflix special Inside.
The comedian recorded his special during the Covid-19 pandemic without a crew or an audience, just him indoors by himself. The result was a unique piece of performance art mixed with amusing songs.
“This bravura, self-reflexive one-man show is a bold, honest time capsule of life in a pandemic,” we wrote in our review.
A year on from the show’s debut, Burnham has unveiled extra bonus footage that wasn’t used in the finished special, putting it up on YouTube for free.
“A year ago today,” he posted on Instagram. “I released a special called Inside. I’ve spent the last two months editing together material that I shot for the special but didn’t end up using. It will be on my YouTube channel in one hour. I hope you enjoy it.”

Inside: Bo Burnham returns to stand-up with Netflix special
26th May 2021
Bo Burnham is returning to the stand-up stage for a new comedy special on Netflix.
The US comedian, who broke out at a young age with comedy songs on YouTube, went on to release two specials on the streaming service: what. in 2013 and Make Happy in 2016. Both blended witty lyrics and satirical pop music with a focus on the artificial nature of performance and comedy. Since then, he’s gone on to make his feature directorial debut with 2018’s Eighth Grade and co-starred in the Oscar-winning Promising Young Woman.
Now, he’s stepping back behind the mic for the first time in five years – sort of. Inside was made over the past year, with a teaser trailer giving us a glimpse of Burnham playing a piano indoors before seemingly hiding in a closet with a quarantine beard.
“Hi, I made a new special,” he announced on Twitter recently. “It was filmed by me, alone, without a crew or an audience, over the course of the past year. It is almost finished. I hope you like it.”
The special will premiere on Netflix on 30th May.
