Hopster launches on Apple TV today.
The educational kids app, which combines games and TV series into one on-demand service, has joined the Apple TV line-up. The service offers hundreds of episodes of the best pre-school shows from around the world, as part of £3.99 monthly subscription (after a free seven day trial).
Since launching in the UK in 2013, Hopster has seen exceptional growth, with 285,000 UK families downloading its app for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. Hopster also received two nominations for the 2015 Kidscreen/iKids Awards: Best Channel Design and Best Streaming Video Platform, and was one of Apple’s ‘Best Of’ apps of 2014.
The launch on Apple TV follows its arrival on Android devices last month, increasing the app’s availability across a range of devices. The service is also expanding internationally, aiming to be available in 100 countries, including Australia, Dubai and other markets across Europe. The arrival on Apple TV, which has a global presence, consolidates the company’s plans for growth.
“Hopster on the big screen is great for families to watch together, and complements our interactive iPhone and iPad apps seamlessly,” says Nick Walters, Hopster founder and CEO. “We’re using the simplicity of Apple TV to curate our shows in a unique way to help kids discover all of Hopster’s amazing content. And since it’s all under one subscription, they can hop from the big screen to the small screen seamlessly when they feel like getting active with our fun learning games.”
Existing Hopster subscribers can unlock all shows using their login credentials directly on Apple TV. Non-subscribers can enjoy a selection of free episodes from the award-winning catalogue – the exact line-up will vary depending on licencing agreements in each country – that could include family favourites such as Ben & Holly’s Little Kingdom, Thomas & Friends, Pingu, SuperWHY!, Max & Ruby and more.
In keeping with Hopster’s educational focus, Hopster on Apple TV features a special Discover! mode, which groups episodes from various shows according to categories from Hopster’s in-house curriculum, along with seasonal themes and specials. Kids can select from sections such as The World Around Me, Engines, Friends & Family, and Animals.
