Hannah Gadsby is bringing Something Special to Netflix this May.
The Emmy and Peabody award winning comedian stopped the comedy world in its tracks with their genre bending show, Nanette. They named their difficult second album after their eldest dog, Douglas, and took it for a walk across the planet, finishing up in Los Angeles where they recorded the special for release on Netflix worldwide.
Now, hot on the heels of releasing their memoir Ten Steps to Nanette: A Memoir Situation, they’re stepping back onto the stage and behind the mic. Something Special is a stand-up special that’s been honed during their Body of Work tour, with Gadsby describing it as their first feel-good romantic comedy show – as they put it, “I believe I owe you one”.
The special was filmed at the Sydney Opera House and covers their marriage to producer Jenney Shamash, as well as homophobic bakers, bogus wedding politics, queer domesticity and misadventures with roadkill. Something Special will be available on Netflix UK on 9th May.
