Game of Thrones Season 5 is now available to download legally in the UK.
HBO’s fantasy epic, which culminated with a finale as shocking and thrilling as fans could expect on Monday night, is almost unrecognisable from its first beginnings several years ago. Not just because most of its cast are practically dead by now, but also because it is more accessible online than ever.
Since Season 3’s early summer release on pay-per-view VOD ahead of March’s traditional DVD date, HBO has increasingly embraced online video as a means to combat piracy. The show is still the most illegally downloaded series in the world, partly thanks to being unavailable in certain territories, but it has never been so readily accessible.
During its broadcast run on Sky Atlantic, the programme was available to stream live and on-demand through cord-cutting VOD service NOW. In the US, HBO has launched an equivalent subscription service – HBO Now – in partnership with Apple TV.
Now, within 24 hours of the fifth season’s finale, the show is already available to buy and download on pay-per-view sites, specifically: iTunes, bliinkbox, Amazon Instant Video, Google Play and Wuaki.tv.
