Amazon unveils ominous new trailer for Homecoming
David Farnor | On 22, Oct 2018
“Homecoming is a safe space…” says Heidi (Julia Roberts) in the new trailer for Homecoming – but judging by this two-minute tease, it’s anything but.
Based on the podcast of the same name, and written by Eli Horowitz and Micah Bloomberg, the psychological drama follows Heidi, a caseworker at the Homecoming Transitional Support Center, a facility helping soldiers transition back to civilian life. She tries to help Walter Cruz (Stephan James), a soldier eager to begin the next phase of his life, but when a Department of Defense auditor (Shea Whigham) comes to her four years later with questions about why she left the facility, things begin to descend into a spiral of secrets.
The ominous glimpse of what’s in store raises all kinds of questions, from the facility’s real motives to Heidi’s true memories, but they also show off the visuals from director Sam Esmail (Mr. Robot), with the walls literally closing in on Heidi, as the aspect ratio shifts and morphs with the growing sense of paranoia. If the full series can replicate that kind of trickery, this should be something very special indeed.
We’ll find out for sure on Friday 2nd November, when the whole series premieres on Amazon Prime Video. Here’s the trailer:
