First look: Joel Kinnaman joins House of Cards Season 4 – but who is he playing?

Joel Kinnaman has joined the cast of House of Cards Season 4.
The actor, who will soon be seen in DC Comics’ Suicide Squad, was revealed today in a new image (above), which sees him head to head with Kevin Spacey’s Frank Underwood.
The last time we caught up with Frank, he and wife Claire Underwood (Robin Wright) were doing very well politically, but struggling on the personal front. As the 2016 US election looms, the fourth run of Netflix’s original show will see Underwood campaigning for votes – a glimpse of which we’ve already had from the witty teaser trailers released in recent weeks.
Beyond that, though plot details of the new season have been kept strictly under wraps. Indeed, it is still not clear who Kinnaman will play, although the actor is no stranger to the streaming giant, after starring in its revived US remake of The Killing.
What we do know is that Kinnaman is one of several new cast members joining the ensemble, with Scream’s Neve Campbell and The Borgias’ Colm Feore both signed up to star in supporting roles. With the campaign trail ahead of them, will Frank and Claire find themselves up against new, younger opponents in the form of Kinnaman and Campbell? Will Frank and Claire even still be together? And will Feore bring veteran political clout to the conflict?
All will be revealed on Friday 4th March, when all episodes of Season 4 premiere on Netflix.
The announcement of Kinnaman’s casting follows the news that House of Cards has been renewed for a fifth season – although showrunner and creator Beau Willimon will depart after this season.
