Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald apparated at the very top of the UK film chart this week.
Warner Bros’ sequel to its Harry Potter spin-off flew to the number one spot in the UK’s disc and downloads league, knocking Bohemian Rhapsody off its podium for the first time in four weeks.
The series, the second in a planned franchise, boasts an all-star cast, including Eddie Redmayne reprising his role as Newt Scamander, Jude Law as a young Albus Dumbledore and Johnny Depp as the titular villain. Combined, that was enough to outshine Bohemian Rhapsody, the Queen biopic that has dominated disc sales and digital downloads since its Oscar success. The film also conjured up a second appearance in the chart: in at number seven is the box set of Fantastic Beasts And Where to Find Them/The Crimes of Grindelwald.
The top three in the chart was completed by another new release, the latest incarnation of Robin Hood, which entered in third spot on digital downloads alone. The film stars Taron Egerton in the lead role, Jamie Foxx as John and Ben Mendelsohn as the Sheriff of Nottingham.
At Number 6, Widows returns to the Top 10 in its fourth week in the chart, following a boost to sales by its disc release. Rounding out this week’s Top 10 are stapes of the film chart: The Greatest Showman rises two to Number 8, Avengers: Infinity War rises one place to 9 and Venom slips by four to Number 10.
