Fall sequel in the works

A sequel to Fall is now in the works after the film has become a big hit on Netflix.
The movie, which is directed by Scott Mann, was the closing film at Arrow Video FrightFest in 2022, before going on to be released in UK cinemas by Signature Entertainment in last September.
It follows Becky (Grace Fulton, Shazam!) and Hunter (Virginia Gardner, Halloween) as they find themselves trapped 2,000 feet up an abandoned radio tower in the desert. Highly trained and resourceful, these climbers marking the tragic passing of a friend were not ready for every eventuality. A series of unfortunate events see their gear and supplies taken from them and as temperatures rise and vultures begin to circle – and the chance of survival begins to fall rapidly.
“This low-key, high-stakes survival thriller is a breathtakingly tense adrenaline ride,” we wrote in our review.
The thriller was filmed outside Palmdale, California, on a 20-foot tower that was on a 100-foot hill to help create a false perspective of height. The film arrived on Netflix internationally last month, and has since gone on to become a word-of-mouth hit. For two weeks in a row it was the second most-matched film on Netflix UK, and it currently remains in the five most-watched films on the platform. The movie’s success is proof once again that new arrivals on the streaming service, regardless of whether they are brand new titles or Netflix originals, can find an audience, with a title once it’s in Netflix’s own Top 10 chart typically gaining extra momentum without needed to be specifically promoted.
Now, Mann and producer Tea Shop Productions are working on a sequel.
Mark Lane, one of the founders of Tea Shop, told Deadline: “It’s an easy thing for people to pick up on a streamer. You can see the concept in the poster image and we’re finding that if people try it, they are getting hooked instantly.”
Co-founder James Harris added: “We’ve got a couple of ideas we’re kicking around … We don’t want to make something that feels like a copycat or less than the first one.”
There is no word yet on whether a sequel would involve any of the cast of the first film, with Jeffrey Dean Morgan also appearing in the movie as Becky’s father. There is also no word whether the film would take a similar route through production and distribution, or whether Netflix would look to step in and produce it directly.
