Netflix is getting ready for the festive season – and every other occasion in the annual calendar – by going on a Holidate this October.
Written by Tiffany Paulsen and directed by John Whitesell, the romantic comedy follows Sloane (Emma Roberts) and Jackson (Luke Bracey), who both hate the holidays. They constantly find themselves single, sitting at the kids table, or stuck with awkward dates. But when these two strangers meet during one particularly bad Christmas, they make a pact to be each other’s “holidate” for every festive occasion throughout the next year. With a mutual disdain for the holidays, and assuring themselves that they have no romantic interest in the other, they become each other’s perfect plus-one which leads to some hilarious and provocative hijinks. However, as a year of absurd celebrations come to an end, Sloane and Jackson find that sharing everything they hate may just prove to be something they unexpectedly love.
The film premieres on 28th October. Here’s the trailer:
Holidate is available on Netflix UK, as part of an £9.99 monthly subscription.
Netflix invites more stars on Holidate
2nd May 2019
Luke Bracey, Jake Manley, Jessica Capshaw, Andrew Bachelor, Frances Fisher, Manish Dayal and Kristin Chenoweth have joined Emma Roberts in Netflix’s Holidate.
Written by Tiffany Paulsen, the film follows Sloane (Emma Roberts) and Jackson (Luke Bracey), who hate the holidays. Their enduring singledom leaves them subject to the judgment of their meddling family members or stuck with clingy, awkward dates on each festive occasion. When these two meet, they pledge to be each other’s plus-ones for each holiday celebration over the course of the year.
Malibu’s Most Wanted director John Whitesell is at the helm, while the film is produced by Wonderland’s McG and Mary Viola, the duo behind comedies The DUFF and I Feel Pretty. Indeed, Holidate marks the fifth collaboration between Wonderland and Netflix: the company is currently in production on the comedy Tall Girl for Netflix and, prior to that, produced Netflix hits The Babysitter, When We First Met, and Rim Of The World.
Emma Roberts makes a Holidate with Netflix
2nd March 2019
Emma Roberts is making a Holidate with Netflix, as the actor signs on to star the streaming giant’s latest original film.
From Adventures in Babysitting writer Tiffany Paulsen and Malibu’s Most Wanted director John Whitesell, the film will see Roberts (Scream Queens) star as Sloane, a singleton who hates the holidays. She hates the holidays almost as much as fellow singleton Jackson. The pair are subject to the judgment of their meddling family members or stuck with clingy, awkward dates on each festive occasion. So when the two meet, they pledge to be each other’s plus-ones for each holiday celebration over the course of the year.
The film is produced by Wonderland’s McG and Mary Viola, the duo behind comedies The DUFF and I Feel Pretty. Indeed, Holidate marks the fifth collaboration between Wonderland and Netflix: the company is currently in production on the comedy Tall Girl for Netflix and, prior to that, produced Netflix hits The Babysitter, When We First Met, and the upcoming family action film Rim Of The World.
