Marvel’s Daredevil has found its Elektra.
Elodie Yung will join the cast of the Netflix series when it returns for a second season next year as the famous assassin and love interest of blind lawyer Matt Murdock.
The character has been long-awaited by fans of the comic book, especially after Season 1 made reference to her. She is summed up in the show’s casting description as “a mysterious woman from Matt Murdock’s past whose dangerous and exotic ways may be more than he can handle”.
The part was last played by Jennifer Garner in the 2003 Ben Affleck movie, and later in the standalone movie spin-off titled “Elektra”. Now, Yung will pick up the twin sais, following roles in G.I. Joe: Retaliation (pictured above) and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.
“After a worldwide search, we found in Elodie the perfect actress to embody both Elektra’s impressive and deadly physicality, as well as her psychological complexity,” comments Executive Producer and Head of Marvel Television, Jeph Loeb.
“Paired with Charlie as Matt Murdock, the two will bring one of the most beloved and tumultuous comic book relationships to life with all the accompanying sparks and spectacular action sequences the show is known for.”
The announcement follows the recent casting of Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle in the show’s upcoming second run, which will see Charlie Cox reprise his role as the super hero vigilante in Hell’s Kitchen, New York.
Doug Petrie and Marco Ramirez will step up to the showrunner plate, replacing Season 1’s Steven DeKnight, with Loeb and Drew Goddard joining them as Executive Producers.
The new season will premiere on Netflix in 2016.
