Krypton cancelled after two seasons

Krypton has been cancelled after two seasons.
The Superman prequel series, executive produced by writer/producer David S. Goyer, is set two generations before the destruction of Superman’s home planet. Krypton follows Seg-El (Cameron Cuffe – The Halcyon), the legendary Man of Steel’s grandfather, who is faced with a life and death conflict. With Krypton’s leadership in disarray and the House of El ostracised, Seg is prompted into action by the arrival of Adam Strange (Shaun Sipos – The Vampire Diaries), who’s travelled from present-day Earth to warn Seg of an insidious plot to change the past and prevent the birth of the last son of Krypton – a plot he believes to have been orchestrated by the Super-Villain Brainiac (Blake Ritson – Da Vinci’s Demons).
The show stars a host of new and established British talent, including BAFTA winner Georgina Campbell (Broadchurch, Flowers, Black Mirror), Wallis Day (The Royals), Aaron Pierre (Britannia) and Ian McElhinney (Derry Girls, Game of Thrones, Rogue One), along with guest stars Rupert Graves (Sherlock, Last Tango in Halifax) and Paula Malcomson (Ray Donovan, The Hunger Games).
It aired in the USA on SyFy back in March 2018, with Season 1 arriving on E4 in August that year. Now, as filming has wrapped on Season 2, SyFy has announced that it will not bring the show back for a third.
The decision is due to poor ratings, reports THR. After the first run ranked as SyFy’s best series premiere in more than three years and its most-watched debut series in four, Season 2 saw figures dwindle significantly. SyFy has also passed on DC spin-off series Lobo, with producers expected to shop that around to other homes. The move continues SyFy’s run of cancelling scripted projects, including Deadly Class and Happy, but Krypton fans in the US can find some consolation in the fact that the show will still be available to stream on DC’s subscription service, DC Universe.
