Doctor Who Season 9 trailer and pictures arrive ahead of September release

“I’m the Doctor, and I save people.”
That’s Peter Capaldi in the new trailer for Doctor Who Season 9.
It’s the typical blend of special effects shots and dramatic statements that we’ve gotten used to over the years from the BBC sci-fi’s marketing team – and Capaldi fits right in, his imperious and booming Time Lord capable of delivering ultimatums like a terrifying uncle.
There’s more, though, on offer from this tantalising tease, which not only sees Clara Oswald (Jenna Coleman) reprise her role as his companion and the return of old monsters, but our first look at Maisie Williams, who leaves Game of Thrones behind for a short stint in the TARDIS.
The trailer was unleashed at Comic-Con, where Capaldi, Coleman and Michelle Gomez (hello, Missy) were in attendance, along with Steven Moffat.
“The way Missy comes back into the Doctor’s life is not something you’re probably going to predict,” he teased the fans assembled at the event. “She’s just as violent and psychopathic as ever – in a lovely way.”
The gang also confirmed that Doctor Who Season 9 will premiere in the UK on Saturday 19th September. Which is 71 days. Not that we’re counting.
To help pass the time, here’s a collection of images of the new season:
