Doc’n Roll Festival heads online for 2020

The Doc’n Roll Festival is heading online this autumn, streaming a host of premieres through the first half of November.
The festival, which is dedicated to musical documentaries, kicked off last night with a BFI Southbank screening of Kelly Jones: Dont Let the Devil Take Another Day. From today, with cinemas closing again due to the second coronavirus lockdown, the festival will be unfolding the rest of its line-up online, running until 19th November.
The line-up includes a profile of Thin Lizzy singer Phil Lynott, a history of jazz and blues in America and a celebration of 60 years of The Ventures, the band that outsold the Beatles 2 to 1 in Japan. Films are available to rent for £5 each and are then available to stream for 24 hours. Powered by Vimeo On Demand, the films are available worldwide without geoblocking, and can be streamed through iOS, Android, Apple TV, Roku and Chromecast.
As well as the films on Vimeo, Ara Malikian: A Life Among Strings will stream via the Barbican’s Cinema On Demand platform, priced £6. This film tells the story of the multifaceted violinist of Lebanese origin and Armenian roots.
Alongside the features are two collections of shorts – comprising eight films each – which are streaming for one week each: the first from Thursday 5th November to Thursday 12th November, the second from 12th November to 19th November. Both collections are available for free.
