It’s only a matter of days now until The Mandalorian is back on our screens, and with things kept closely under wraps by Disney+, a new trailer gives us our best taste yet of what’s to come in Season 2.

The smash hit Star Wars series will once again see The Mandalorian (Pedro Pascal) and “the Child” (baby Yoda to you and us) continue their journey, facing enemies and rallying allies as they make their way through a dangerous galaxy in the tumultuous era after the collapse of the Galactic Empire.

Gina Carano, Carl Weathers and Giancarlo Esposito will all return to reprise their roles, which means we can expect some Darksaber action, as well as bounty hunting in some guide or another. But there’s also the promise of Mando learning to use his jet pack on offer, not to mention the most exciting stuff of all – what’s not in the trailer, such as Rosario Dawson, Katee Sackhoff and Temuera Morrison all joining the cast for roles that remain ambiguous.

Season 2 premieres on 30th October, with new episodes arriving weekly. Here’s the trailer:

 

New character posters for The Mandalorian Season 2

Disney+ has dropped new character posters for Season 2 of The Mandalorian before it arrives later this month.

Nobody needs any reminding of who’s in The Mandalorian, Disney’s smash hit Star Wars series that takes Western genre thrills to a galaxy far, far away. But with weeks to go until the show finally starts its sophomore run, the new artwork is a welcome chance to admire the casting and costume design work in between rewatching the first season.

Season 2 sees The Mandalorian (Pedro Pascal) and “the Child” (baby Yoda to you and us) continue their journey, facing enemies and rallying allies as they make their way through a dangerous galaxy in the tumultuous era after the collapse of the Galactic Empire.

Gina Carano, Carl Weathers and Giancarlo Esposito will all return to reprise their roles. Behind the camera, Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni and Bryce Dallas Howard also return to take the helm, along with Rick Famuyiwa, Carl Weathers, Peyton Reed and Robert Rodriguez.

Season 2 premieres on Friday 30th October, with new episodes arriving weekly.

“Wherever I go, he goes.” That’s the sound of The Mandalorian and baby Yoda (“The Child”) returning to our screens, and the first trailer for Season 2 shows no sign of their bond breaking.

The sophomore run of the live-action Star Wars series sees the duo continue their journey, facing enemies and rallying allies as they make their way through a dangerous galaxy in the tumultuous era after the collapse of the Galactic Empire.

Pedro Pascal returns as The Mandalorian, alongside Gina Carano, Carl Weathers and Giancarlo Esposito. Directors for the new season include Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni, Bryce Dallas Howard, Rick Famuyiwa, Carl Weathers, Peyton Reed and Robert Rodriguez.

You can see them all in action from 30th October, when Season 2 begins streaming on Disney+ – and, judging by the new video, you can expect them to cross paths with more and more elements of Star Wars mythology, from Jedis to that Darksaber we glimpsed in the finale of Season 1.

First look: Disney+ drops new images from The Mandalorian Season 2

The Mandalorian finally returns to Disney+ next month, and new images now give us our first look at Season 2.

The streaming service’s flagship show has proven a hit since its debut last year in the US (and this year in the UK), telling the story of a lone gunslinger on the outer reaches of the galaxy after the fall of the Empire in Episode VI. Pedro Pascal (Game of Thrones) plays the bounty hunter, with Season 1 introducing a host of faces that include Werner Herzog, Nick Nolte and Gina Carano, as well as Carl Weathers and Giancarlo Esposito – and, of course, one Baby Yoda, or as the official synopsis calls him “the Child”.

Season 2 wrapped filming before the coronavirus outbreak, with Robert Rodriguez and Peyton Reed joining Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau to helm episodes. It has otherwise remained shrouded in secrecy – except for a steady drip-feed of impressive names leaking out that continue to expand the cast. That includes Timothy Olyphant, Michael Biehn, Rosario Dawson, Katee Sackhoff and Temuera Morrison.

Otherwise, we know that Esposito’s Moff Gideon holds the Darksaber, following the Season 1 finale, which will position him as the Dark Side-esque villain as the show grows in scale.

“The stories become less isolated, yet each episode has its own flavour, and hopefully we’re bringing a lot more scope to the show,” executive producer Dave Filoni told EW in a recent interview. “Everything gets bigger, the stakes get higher, but also the personal story between the Child and the Mandalorian develops in a way I think people will enjoy.”

Pedro Pascal (Game of Thrones) plays the bounty hunter, with Season 1 introducing a host of faces that include Werner Herzog, Nick Nolte and Gina Carano, as well as Carl Weathers and Giancarlo Esposito – and, of course, one Baby Yoda.

Season 2 wrapped filming before the coronavirus outbreak, with Robert Rodriguez and Peyton Reed joining Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau to helm episodes. Now, though, we finally know when we can see the impressive ensemble in action, with Disney officially debuting Season 2 on 30th October – with new episodes likely to then air weekly on Fridays.

 

Timothy Olyphant joins The Mandalorian Season 2

Timothy Olyphant is the latest big name to join The Mandalorian for its second season.

The Disney+ flagship show has proven a hit since its debut last year in the US (and this year in the UK), telling the story of a lone gunslinger on the outer reaches of the galaxy after the fall of the Empire in Episode VI. Pedro Pascal (Game of Thrones) plays the bounty hunter, with Season 1 introducing a host of faces that include Werner Herzog, Nick Nolte and Gina Carano, as well as Carl Weathers and Giancarlo Esposito – and, of course, one Baby Yoda.

Season 2 wrapped filming before the coronavirus outbreak, but has remained shrouded in secrecy – except for a steady drip-feed of impressive names leaking out that continue to expand the cast. The latest is Timothy Olyphant. The Justified and Deadwood actor, who recently won hearts on Netflix’s Santa Clarita Diet before it was cancelled, will appear in Season 2, reports THR, although it is not known whether he will play a new or returning character.

He joins Michael Biehn, Rosario Dawson, with Dawson expected to play Clone Wars character Ahsoka Tano. Also reportedly reprising a Star Wars role is Katee Sackhoff as Bo-Katan from Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Attack of the Clones star Temuera Morrison, who is rumoured to be playing Boba Fett.

Behind the camera, directors Robert Rodriguez and Peyton Reed will join Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau, both returning to helm episodes.

 

Katee Sackhoff joins The Mandalorian Season 2

Katee Sackhoff has joined the cast of The Mandalorian for Season 2.

The Battlestar Galactica veteran is known to sci-fi fans around the world for her portrayal of Starbuck, but has more recently become a household name thanks to her voicing of Mandalorian warrior Bo-Katan Kryze on animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebel. Now, she’s headed to the live-action Star Wars universe to play the same character.

Bo-Katan was introduced to Star Wars audiences in Clone Wars Season 4, which recently dropped its finale on Disney+. Involved in the plotline relating to the Darksaber, it’s only natural that she should appear in The Mandalorian too, after the blade made an appearance at the end of Season 1 – in the hands of Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito). With Rosario Dawson also expected to play the live-action version of Clone Wars character Ashoka Tano (also connected to the Darksaber), that cliffhanger looks set to establish the direction of Season 2 significantly.

She joins Pedro Pascal (Game of Thrones) as the eponymous bounty hunter, and a cast that includes Nick Nolte and Gina Carano, as well as Carl Weathers and Esposito, not to mention Baby Yoda and the return of Attack of the Clones star Temuera Morrison, who is reported to be playing Boba Fett.

The Mandlorian Season 2 is currently in post-production and slated to premiere later this year.

 

Temuera Morrison to appear in The Mandalorian Season 2

Temuera Morrison is returning to the Star Wars universe to appear in The Mandalorian.

The New Zealand actor played Jango Fett in Episode II: Attack of the Clones. Jango, Star Wars fans may recall, was the original Mandalorian bounty hunter cloned to make the clone troopers – starting with one unaltered clone, Boba Fett, who was raised by Jango as his son. Jango died during the George Lucas prequel trilogy, many years before the Disney+ series The Mandalorian takes place. Boba Fett, on the other hand, was last seen in Episode VI: Return of the Jedi, not so long before the spin-off show.

The catch, however, is that Boba’s last appearance was being thrown into the Sarlacc Pit on Tatooine by Jabba the Hutt, where it very much appeared that he was eaten. Nonetheless, sources have told THR that Morrison will be playing Boba for Season 2 of The Mandalorian.

Boba appearing has been a rumour, and a fan wish, ever since the series premiered, not least because of some off-screen noises that sounded like Boba’s suit in Episode 5, after bounty hunter Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen) crosses paths with a mysterious stranger. Season 2 is currently in post-production, after it wrapped in March, and is set for an October release, but details about the series’ return are being kept quiet – even Rosario Dawson’s appearance in Season 2 remains unconfirmed whether it will be as The Clone Wars favourite Ahsoka Tano.

 

Peyton Reed and Robert Rodriguez to direct The Mandalorian Season 2

Peyton Reed and Robert Rodriguez are both heading to the Star Wars universe later this year, with the pair confirming they have directed episodes of The Mandalorian’s second season.

Set after the fall of the Empire in Episode VI, long after the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, the Disney+ series follows the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic. Pedro Pascal (Game of Thrones) plays the eponymous bounty hunter on a mission to collect a particularly difficult prize. The cast also includes Werner Herzog, Nick Nolte and Gina Carano, as well as Carl Weathers and Giancarlo Esposito – and, of course, one Baby Yoda.

That combination of talent has seen Jon Favreau’s series soar to pop culture sensation status almost immediately, with a second run swiftly commissioned by Disney. (Read our review of Season 1 here.) One part of the show’s success has been the bringing together of different voices to direct each episode of Season 1, with storytellers taking the helm including Dave Filoni, Taika Waititi, Bryce Dallas Howard, Deborah Chow, and Rick Famuyiwa.

Now, Season 2 has two helmers confirmed, with El Mariachi director Robert Rodriguez and Ant-Man and the Wasp’s Peyton Reed taking May the 4th as the ideal occasion to reveal their involvement.

Favreau and Filoni will both be directing episodes as well, but the rest of the filmmaking team is yet to be revealed and may well see some of Season 1’s helmers return. What we do know is that Michael Biehn and Rosario Dawson have joined the cast in front of the camera, with Dawson expected to play Clone Wars character Ahsoka Tano.

The Mandalorian will return to Disney+ for Season 2

Disney has officially renewed The Mandalorian for a second season.

The live-action Star Wars series is the flagship title for Disney’s new subscription streaming platform, Disney+, which launched in the US on 12th November and comes to the UK on 31st March 2020. It is set after the fall of the Empire in Episode VI. After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, it follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.

Season 2 debuted its finale on Disney+ today and, within hours of its arrival, showrunner and creator Jon Favreau confirmed that Season 2 was officially on the way, with a release date of autumn 2020.

Filming has already been teased on Season 2 by Favreau, but this is the first time that the sophomore run has been officially announced. Favreau did so on social media with a picture of a Gamorrean, a pig-lizard species that fans will recognise from Jabba the Hut’s palace in Return of the Jedi, which suggests that we’ll either find out more about their home planet or even head to Tatooine for some Jabba-related action. Until then, you can head this way for the trailer for Season 1.
