The Derry Girls are heading to the Bake Off tent this New Year for a festive special of the cooking contest.
Channel 4 has never shied away from a Christmas special or two of the baking series, whipping up celebrities and former contestants for a Christmas edition of The Great British Bake Off and a New Year instalment. 2019 will be no exception, with Channel 4 lining up none other than the Derry Girls themselves for its second seasonal special.
Airing over the New Year, The Great Festive Bake Off special will see Noel, Sandi, Prue and Paul welcome the cast to the hit comedy to the festive tent for the first time. Baking up some New Year’s inspired bakes, and competing for the coveted Star Baker title will be Saoirse-Monica Jackson, Nicola Coughlan, Jamie-Lee O’Donnell, Dylan Llewellyn and Siobhan McSweeney.
Together they’ll see in the New Year with London Community Gospel Choir.
Before you can say “TV crossover event of the year”, Channel 4 has also announced the line-up for its Christmas Bake Off special, airing the week of Christmas Day. That will see Noel, Sandi, Prue and Paul joined by Tom and Yan from the 2017 series, and Briony and Terry from 2018, competing in festive themed challenges for the title of Christmas Star Baker. They’ll round off Christmas with legendary British rock band Status Quo, as they perform their smash hit, Rockin All Over The World.
The double-bill off specials lead a cracking Christmas schedule on Channel 4 and E4, with the festive schedule including a Christmas special of The Undateables, Kirstie’s Handmade Christmas 2019, Jamie’s Best Christmas Ever, Amazing Spaces Northern Lights Adventure, Inside the Toy Factory at Christmas, Food Unwrapped: Christmas Survival Guide, 8 Out of Ten Cats Christmas, Rob Beckett’s Savage Socials at Christmas, Jamie & Jimmy’s Friday Night Feast, The Tiger Who Came To Tea, First Dates at Christmas, Big Fat Quiz of the Year 2019, Richard Osman’s World Cup of the Decade, Chitty Flies Again, The Last Leg of the Year, The Big Fat Quiz of The Decade and the Alternative Christmas Message, delivered by a yet-to-be-announced public figure.
