Clemency, starring Alfre Woodard, finally has a UK release date, with the film heading online this July.
Directed by Chinonye Chukwu (Sorry for Your Loss), it follows prison warden Bernadine Williams, who has spent years carrying out death row executions. They have taken their toll and, as she prepares to execute another inmate, Bernadine must confront the psychological and emotional demons her job creates.
Starring Alfre Woodard as well as Aldis Hodge and Wendell Pierce, the drama was one of the talked-about contenders during awards season, picking up a nomination for Woodard and Chukwu at the Independent Spirit Awards. The writer-director, meanwhile, won the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance, making her the first Black woman to win the top prize at the Utah festival.
Now, the film finally has an official release date, with Clemency available on Curzon Home Cinema from Friday 17th July. Distributed by Bohemia Media, it will also be available on a bespoke film streaming platform that will allow viewers to select a local cinema to receive an equal split of the revenue.
